No one is saying Bonds wasn’t great. It’s countering that McGwire did nothing in his first few years - presumably free of PEDs - that indicated he could be elite enough to make the HOF without juicing.
And if they were all doing steroids from the start, then does that make it better that Bonds was just a better player on steroids than others?
