Oldest Piece of Clothing You Own.

This morning when I crawled out of bed, I pulled on a pair of shorts that were pretty ragged. I stopped and thought about how old these things were, and it occurred to me that I have had them since high school.

I'm coming up on 15 years from graduation, so that means they are 15 years old at minimum. But they are a brand name that indicates I likely wore them when I was still skateboarding, which I quit around the time I got a driver's license. So a more accurate guess is that they are around 17 years old. 17 freaking years these shorts have lasted. They're kind of a sweatshirt material, and I rarely wear them for more than between bed and dressed in the morning, or shower and bed at night. But over the years, these things have to have months worth of wear on them.

So what's the oldest piece of clothing you own?

I have a couple pairs of boxers that I have had since 8th grade. I wear them when I am completley out of clean clothes, they are so worn they are almost see through. I also have a pair of jeans I got in 8th grade. I used to buy my clothes huge then so they fit okay still. They are kind of torn up from getting caught in my bike chain, but they are comfortable.

Last time I went back home my mom pulled out a pair of Scooby Doo underwear that I had worn when I was 5-6 years old. They are easily 25 yrs old. I don't wear them anymore obviously.... but what memories....

OK, maybe I do wear them...... but come on.... Scooby Doo!!!

In 1971 when I was on the high school basketball team. We had sleevless shirts we wore in practice. They are reversible, blue on the inside and gold on the outside. Good ole' number 5. I can still get it on, but I was a little fucker back then so it's tight. I don't wear it anymore, but I keep it for the memories.

I have an old bath robe my uncle lent to me, and then let me keep, when I was 15. It wasn't new at the time, and now I'm 40. Since it's a robe, I can still actually fit into it, unlike anything else from back then that would have long ago given way to the 100 or so pounds I've gained over the past 25 years. I rarely wear it, so it's still in fairly decent shape considering that it's probably 30 years old.

I also still have my dress blues Navy jumper, but fitting into that is a distant memory. I keep it for sentimental reasons.
