Norma Hunt to Participate in Super Bowl Coin Toss
Feb 02, 2007, 1:00:00 PM Miami –Norma Hunt, wife of Kansas City Chiefs founder and American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, will join former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino for the coin toss prior to Super Bowl XLI. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement earlier today at his Super Bowl press conference. Lamar Hunt, who passed away on December 13, 2006 at the age of 74, was a pivotal figure in the growth of professional football and his name is synonymous with the Super Bowl itself. In addition to negotiating the A.F.L.-N.F.L. merger that led to the creation of the game as we know it today, it was Lamar Hunt who coined the term “Super Bowl” for the contest between the champions of the two leagues. Lamar and Norma Hunt had attended each of the previous 40 Super Bowl games together including the very first one that saw the Chiefs fall to the Green Bay Packers as well as Super Bowl IV in which Kansas City defeated Minnesota. |
