As a Minnesota Twins baseball fan, I kind of compared certain aspects of the Jared Allen trade with the Johan Santana trade.
The thing that got me through both of them (without knowing how the traded players or draft picks would turn out) was knowing there was absolutely NO shot at resigning that player when their contract was up. There was no way Jared was coming back. Three draft picks are worth the last year of a contract for a guy that doesn't want to play for your team. As many have said, getting a long term left offensive tackle, a running back and safety are easily worth the one year of Jared Allen.
