What the HELL is Clark waiting on?

Okay the league is just moving on without us, what the hell are we waiting on? Cant we just ****ing unload Herms ass now?

Teams are unloading the trash, looking at EVERYONE we have been talking about for months, are we going to sit around in Typical Chiefs fashion and let all the up and coming prospects get snatched up?

I really dont want to go shopping on the used retread lot and come away with guys like Marty, Cowher or some other has been...

This is our chance, the first chance we have had in 20 years to actually build a championship team. It would be nice if we are actually pro-active and not passive about something this serious....

I get it, but it just seems to me he is not wanting to get his hands dirty firing his buddy. I think he thought about this a while back. Maybe not but that is how it comes across a little to me.

If you want the best candidates, you have to wait like everyone else.
The fact Detroit, the Jets and the Browns are already lining up interviews and the Chiefs haven't even fired Herm yet doesn't concern you?

What makes you think a coaching candidate after interviewing with that current list of teams is going to wait on the possibility of the Chiefs head coach position becoming available?

They can't hire any of these people until AFTER their seasons end with their respective teams.

And honestly, who the **** wants any of the retreads that those teams are going after?

First, we have no idea what Clark has set up, or not set up. He's not the type to broadcast his every thought through the media.

Second, assuming he's done nothing - that's a good thing, IMO. That means he's interested in either Polian or DeCosta - or someone else who is playing this weekend.

I genuinely wonder how many of you read at a 3rd grade level. The GENERAL MANAGER comes first, who then in turn hires a HEAD COACH.

Nothing would be moving any quicker even if Herm had been fired right away.

Why would it concern anyone when the plan has been laid out as plain as day?

I'm sure interviews are being arranged as we speak with coaches who cannot yet be interviewed.

It would be an indication to potential head coaching candidates that the Chiefs head coaching job is in play.

Also not all the candidates being interviewed are currently employed by playoff teams... i.e. Bill Cowher, Jason Garrett and Josh McDaniels (and soon possibly Mike Shanahan)

After our interview with Pioli is the only sensible time to interview McDaniels.

Cowher is not coaching in 09, and **** Jason Garret.

Only KC fans are dumb enough to think that the job is NOT in play.

Anyone with any common ****ing sense that works in the league knows that a new GM is going to bring in his own coach.

And who the **** wants the guys you listed?

Detroit, Cleveland, etc can have them.

See, potential GM's have this kind of shit planned out well in advance.

A guy like DeCosta, for example, reaches out to guys during the season to gauge their interest in working for him if he's offered a GM spot. It's not like these guys are coming into the position cold. They already know who they'd hire if they are offered a job.

And when a guy interviews with Clark, he's going to come right out and say, if I get the job, X, Y and Z is who I want on staff.

FFS. This isn't rocket science.

No one is saying the Chiefs have to start interviewing head coaching candidates before they hire a GM... but given the fact Clark has stated that while the new GM will have input in Herm's fate, the ultimate decision regarding Herm will be made by Clark... there is no reason for Herm NOT to be fired immediately unless Clark either thinks he is going to find a GM who might want to keep Herm (highly unlikely), or he wants Herm to remain as the Chiefs head coach in 2009 (more likely).

What message do you think Cleveland is sending to GMs they're interviewing that "we're looking to hire you for GM, but we're already looking to make the coaching decision without you."

Clark's on the right track here. A GM should be allowed to bring in his own guys. And I think it sends a really good message to prospective GMs that Clark Hunt has stuck true to his word that the GM, not Clark Hunt, would decide who our next coach will be.

Why do people want us to interview coaches without a GM? And why would anyone want to rush the GM decision just to start interviewing coaches?

Yes, it's an unfortunate situation, but it's the right one.

And what makes you think Clark will allow a new GM to fire Herm if Clark wants to keep him?

Let's go back to Clark's press conference announcing the "resignation" of Dictator Carl:

“I had a chance to speak with Herm this afternoon and I told him I’m very supportive of the job that he’s done to this point and the approach that he’s taken in rebuilding the football team. A decision on his future will be one that we will make in the off-season. It’s something that I expect a new general manager will have input in although the final decision will be mine.”

When Herm is let go his contract needs to be paid off
the interest on that payoff could buy the new coach
a really nice desk for his new office

No, it doesn't.

Clark Hunt said his owner would have the power to make the decision about Herm and who our next head coach is.

Firing Herm now and interviewing coaches before a new GM comes in would be lying. Even if it's posturing, it's the right move. I don't know where people get any indication that the GM decision is even remotely based on who is most likely to keep Herm. That's just a phantom conspiracy theory.

No GM has been hired yet. Therefore, the Chiefs are neither ahead or behind schedule.

If that were the case, he wouldn't have fired Carl.

There isn't a single guy in the league that is going to accept a GM job that requires them to keep a coach they don't believe in. If it's your ass on the line, you're going to want to pick your own people.
