Yes, you bring in strong competition and I'd be fine with that being a first round pick. And yes, you yank him if the new QB clearly outperformns Thigpen. And yes, you yank Thigpen if he isn't playing to a very high level in 2009. But the stupidest strategy in the book would be to say that Thigpen doesn't win a job in 2008 no way, no how. Jobs shouldn't be guaranteed to players just because of their draft position.
Well Kitna played well with Palmer behind him and he still got the starting job pulled from him and given to Palmer the next year...
