Bucs Dominik on Chiefs short list

BUCS’ DOMINIK ON CHIEFS’ SHORT LIST
Posted by Aaron Wilson on January 6, 2009, 9:04 p.m.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers pro personnel director Mark Dominik first caught the eye of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt when he was a scouting intern in 1994. Nearly 15 years later, Hunt is reportedly seeking a bright, young executive.

And he believes that Dominik could fit that profile, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Now that Dominik’s career has progressed, the 37-year-old has emerged as a candidate for the Chiefs’ General Manager vacancy created by Carl Peterson’s resignation.

Per the report, Dominik has been informally talking with the Chiefs for several weeks.

Dominik faces stiff competition, though, for the position from Scott Pioli of the Patriots, as well as Chris Polian of the Colts and Jimmy Raye of the Chargers.

Unless Pioli formally declines overtures from the Chiefs, however, Dominik most likely will not be offered a job.

That said, he could join the Chiefs as a lateral hire after his contract expires in May, if the new G.M. is willing to hire him.

Well in fairness to him the Chargers have been an outstanding draft team for several years now.

Clark Hunt has been here for 3 years and he's already fired the GM that was very close to his Dad. From the sound of it, he's taking the GM search very seriously and, unlike Carl Peterson, he is looking into a LOT of people outside of the Chiefs' network.

I don't understand your blind accusations. It sounds like he's conducting the thorough GM search we all wanted and, by the way, he's heavily pursuing the #1 candidate right now who has no direct connection with the Chiefs' franchise.

LET'S GET SOME ELECTRONIC MOJO GOING:

Anytime a forum member expresses distaste for the Dominick / Tampa Connection, all forum members viewing or subscribed to the thread in question should respond with the affirmative "Aye".

Mind over matter people, mind over matter.

Gut feeling, but I think Dominik is being mentioned to either distract from the Pioli negotiations or to send a quiet message to Pioli not to be too demanding. Based on their recent drafts (if nothing else) I'd prefer Raye over Dominik. But I also think Raye WILL be interviewed less for his qualifications and more so Clark won't have to answer to Jesse Jackson.

No, I'm not accusing anyone of racism. And in fact the more I read about Raye the more intriguing he becomes. I'm just saying that I think Clark has totally zeroed in on Pioli. If somehow that falls through, THEN we can think of Raye and others in more serious terms.

All I've seen out of Clark this year is a guy who is to gutless to fire Herm. He wants to hire a big boy to do it for him...........Sorry Clark has to prove me wrong, the ball's in his court and so far I don't think he knows how to dribble.

Hmmm a guy that possibly would be in favor of keeping Herm Edwards. Both started in KC and both were in Tampa Bay. A young guy that would be more receptive to keeping on a guy he is familiar with for at least a year.

Ugh.

I don't think he is gutless at all. I think he wants to keep Herm and is orchestrating that. That isn't gutless. I don't think it is right, but it isn't gutless.

Gutless would be firing Herm to appease fans.
