What is Chiefsplanet's take on marijuana?

This is purely out of curiosity. I'm just wandering what the majority here think about marijuana.

Do you think it's good or bad for adults to smoke it?

Do you think it's harmful in our society?

Do you think it should be illegal?

If you think it should be kept illegal, what are your reasons for that?

What reasons do you think it is currently illegal for?

So tell me, who is gonna determine what's an important job? I'm a Pharmacy Tech. If I screw up and give someone the wrong medication I could kill them. What about an electrician who if he screws up could cause a short and burn down a building and kill the people inside? I personally am in the legalize and regulate camp because I do think there is some medicinal value in cannabis but I see it more as FDA class 3 or 4 drug (along the same lines as vicodin or valium) than being a current card carrying member of one of the states that have okayed it. Here in CO about 10 doctors write 85% of all the MMC's in the state. I pay attention to this because I've been a "legal" drug dealer for almost 25 years. I tried weed in college and didn't like what it did to me. I know people who swear by it for bi-polar disorder and had a friend who died from an accidental fall from a cell phone tower who was most likely self-medicating. I don't think it's as harmless as the supporters would have you believe but it's not the "debbil" that the anti's claim either.

Never did much for me. If I so much as had a beer or two with the stuff the room would start spinning and I was toilet clinging for the night.

I'd never bother with it again but I think it should be legal...

Legalize it. Alcohol is way more dangerous. You ever see two stoned people at a bar beating the hell out of each other. Nope! Fighting is the LAST thing you want to do when you are baked. I hope to walk into the BP near my house one day and buy an ounce of kush from that hot Indian lady. Legally.

I have bi-polar disorder and weed helps sometimes, but half the time it makes me unbearably depressed. It's definately a dual-edged sword. I totally agree with your take, BTW.

It should be legal. If you haven't seen the documentary "The Drug Years", check it out sometime. Some good historical info on how all recreational drugs came to the states. That being said.......Roll that shit, hit that shit, PASS that shit!!!

Alcohol is legal and it's not ok to be flying a plane or handing out meds drunk.

Legalize it. That's fine, but it's still NOT ok to have it in your system if you want to be employed by XYZ.

Your choice...

I like your take except that there are no cases of anyone over-dosing on weed so I don't think it belongs categorized with vicodin or valium. As far as your friend falling.. why was he up there in the first place? was he working or did he just climb up for the thrill? Either way, I think I would blame the personal decision to climb the tower over being high... very unfortunate, but many things could have been a factor, heights are dangerous... substance use would just be part of it.

I used to smoke it years ago and have always thought it stays in your system for a month. You can get drunk on friday and test clean on monday How would they be able to test for weed as someone could smoke on friday and test dirty monday.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean employers should change their standards.

Hell, it's legal to be an @$$#ole, but being an @$$#ole will probably also get you fired...

Hemp is the most remarkable natural plant in the world. It can be made into clothing, food, apparel, paper, toiletries, and scores of other things we take for granted. Hemp also matures in 4 months. This means a farmer gets 3 yields per year. This in turn means a farmer will make, at the very least, 3 times as much money over the typical annual yield such as wheat, corn, or soy.

There are over 100 different varieties of hemp of which only a mere few have a THC level to get a person high. Legalize all the non-toxic hemp and the toxic hemp will then follow suit.

Stop trying to make marijuana legal. It's like saying I have the right to drive drunk. Focus on what is good about the plant first, and then the rest will follow.
Biofuels: Switchgrass is one of the best sources. Hemp can be grown faster, and in more abundance.

But, the criminal cottage industry must prevail! Are busted pot users in a gateway to more criminal activity?

I think it should be legalized. As far as being a gateway drug, it's certainly less of one than alcohol. The first time I tried coke, I wasn't stoned on pot; I was drinking.

And I don't think pot users are bad people, but it is something you should outgrow as you become a mature adult. And as long as it is illegal, anyone who is still doing it once they are married or have kids is an idiot.

I have no interest in debating employers changing standards, your post made me wonder how they would test for it. If someone has booze in their system you know they have been drinking with in a certain time frame. If someone has weed in their system you have noway of knowing if it was that day or 3 weeks ago. I was just thinking out loud or in this case thinking in type~

What I'm saying is that I think people should have that choice. Yes, it should be legal. Yes, you should be allowed to carry or smoke it.

I don't think that means that anything else should change.

My $0.02....

I think companies would still ban it's use if there is noway to test it and determine when the person used it~
