Not any other fighter, but champions will have a little more leash then any other fighter and they SHOULD get that respect. It happens in Boxing and it happens in MMA.

Brock covered up for the flurries, once they were slowed down, he kept busy showing the ref that he wasnt out.

Its that simple. The ref did the RIGHT THING.

You are going about it the right way. No sour grapes or name calling just pointing out it "could" have been stopped. I think most would agree with that. However the other guy went batshit crazy so people responded a little different~

thanks. i think that there is some protection for the ufc golden boys. some get more leeway than others. forrest for example.

like i said in the other thread i can respect brock a tiny bit after surviving and coming back BUT if big country beat kimbo while tapping on the guys head, hell the ref looked like he didnt know if biggun was punching or tapping out lol, then this fight should have been stopped cuz carwin was throwing bombs

I never said that it was Lesnar that got the leeway. IMHO, the leeway was given because it was a title fight. Had it been Carwin on the bottom getting pounded like that, I believe the ref would have shown the same consideration.

i disagree about it being the same if carwin was on the ground. i feel as though the ufc is starting to somewhat protect the money guys. he wasnt out but it went past the point where most fights are stopped title or not.

the rules dont change for title fights, well except for going five rounds.

The refs do not work for the UFC, they are employed by the state athletic commission.

Lesnar pushed Carwin away with his feet, at points covered up so well that Carwin was hitting only his arms, and it never looked like Lesnar just gave up while on the bottom. Perhaps the amazing Dan Mergliata would have stopped it, but I doubt the Herb Dean and McCarthy would have stopped it.

You have to remember that the UFC has no control over the judges. The judges are appointed by the state athletic commision. The judges do not take orders from the UFC or Dana White so the UFC does not control if/when a ref stops a bout.

White was angry when he saw Rosenthal in the cage before the main event and asked UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta how Rosenthal got the fight instead of Herb Dean, who he regards as the best referee in the history of mixed martial arts.

But Rosenthal showed good judgment and didn’t overreact, as many young referees might have in such a high pressure, high-profile situation. He was proven correct when Lesnar survived and then came back to choke out Carwin at 2:19 of the second round.

“Josh Rosenthal was fantastic and I want to apologize for badmouthing him before he did anything wrong,” White said.

This in no rule that says because a guy if covering himself with his arms you must stop the fight. It's the refs decision and Josh had a better look at it then any of us at home and he made the right call, because obviously Brock wasn't done. He ended the round on his feet.

Refs are supposed to stop fights if the fighter is totally defense-less. Meaning if he goes limp or if it's clear that he is unable to DEFEND himself. IMO the good refs are the ones that let it go until it's clear the fighter can no longer defend himself. Brock was down, cut, and taking some good shots from Carwin. BUT he was able to cover up and showed that he was making attempts to fight back. All you ever hear about are the bad refs that "stop fights too early", yet you never hear anything about how "good" a ref is. The ref let it go, Carwin was getting very tired, and his hits were getting less and less effective, and Brock eventually was able to stand to his feet and lean Carwin up against the cage and pretty much was able to rest before the bell rang. Carwin was tired. I don't believe in the whole "well it's because he's never been out of the 1st rd in his fights". That's bullshit because they sure as hell don't train that way. He as well as Brock trained for 5 rounds. He was just gassed, he exerted all of his energy throwing bombs. I think he was just too anxious more than anything. Having a better gameplan "during" the fight could have resulted in a different outcome for Carwin. But that 2nd rd proved that he didn't have anything left, he couldn't stand Lesnar's takedown because he didn't have any energy left. Then once Brock had the sidemount Carwin was finished. His eyes bulged out of his head and had the oh **** look on his face. Goodnight Carwin, sweet dreams. Had there not been a ref in this fight, Lesnar would have killed Carwin eventually from him passing out, then Brock wailing on him to death.

Having that said I still think Carwin poses as Lesnar's biggest threat as I post today. At least Brock knows now that he's not invincible. His first loss was a fluke loss. Mir's a pussy and Brock knows that, Frank knows that. Cain Velasquez IMO doesn't pose much as a threat to Lesnar as Carwin does. But Brock is a tough mother****er. Only he would have been able to recover from the punishment.
