I agree that all guys should be doing this sort of stuff in the offseason. Isn't Bowe doing some sort of camp with other receivers like Fitzgerald?

A lot of these guys, particularly the lineman do something in the offseason to prepare improve their physique and their game. I was just alluding to the fact that every member of our team showed up to to OTA's which is not mandatory and that shows a lot of character for a team.

I also thought I read somewhere that Waters was doing something like this too and I was reminded of this while watching the new documentary on the band, Rush, and how Neil Peart took drumming lessons from some guru a couple of years ago. Even Neil Peart, arguably one of the best drummers in rock, wanted to look for ways to improve his skills.

ya ... we glad to hear about Bowe working at the camp with Fitz etc.

first year i've hear of Bowe doing that though ... maybe he did and we just didn't hear about that. imo Bowe is a primo candidate for these type camps.

Actually, Bowe has worked with Fitzgerald before in the offseason, so this isn't new for him.

I think Pioli going with character guys and guys who were captains and good guys off the field will pay off because you see the work ethic these guys have. That's what I am hoping anyway.

What I was talking about was some of the media types (supposedly) quoting teams about when McCluster posted a 4.58 40 time and said he would drop more in the rankings. Pioli said later they felt he played faster than that, so when they investigated they found he had a small injury slowing him down.

Measurables are important, but not everything. This administration seems to not place combine measurables at the very top, but rather game speed, personal makeup, integrity, etc.

Nope, sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't say they all were doing something wrong. I just questioned how much research other teams do. In other words, just how deep they go investigating potential draft picks.

I've never read any stories about NFL teams starting out a draft search with 2000 names like the Chiefs did last year.

As I stated in another reply, there was the story about McCluster where his 40 time was off a bit from where the 'analysts' thought it should be, and they were proclaiming he would drop in the draft as a result. Pioli stated he thought he played faster than that, so when they investigated they found he was coming off of a small injury which slowed him down. Stuff like that is what I was talking about. Do they investigate the guys character, his heart, or just use a spreadsheet to compare combine measurables?

I think it's pretty cool how players from different teams work out together and do these camps together. They're trying to up each others' game, and as a result the talent level of the entire league goes up, and games become that much more exciting and fun to watch. I mean, McCluster and Washington could very well end up going against each other in a real game situation, and McCluster will try to use what Washington taught him to beat him. That's a pretty cool aspect of the NFL that you never really think about.

In all honesty McCluster wasn't passed over by anyone. He actually went a basically half of a round earlier than expected. Most saw McCluster as a late 2nd guy and we took him early 2nd.

I liked the pick from the beginning. I say that because I felt he was a excellent football player regardless of measurements. What this team has been sorely lacking is a big number of playmakers and McCluster was one of the most dynamic playmakers in this draft. I'm not scared of his size one bit. I guess I've been in the dream world of thinking what it would be like if the Chiefs had someone like Darren Sproles or Percy Harvin on roster... now we have that type of player and I'm so excited to see him perform!
