Chiefs Mock (1/28/11)

Several things.

1. Bowe, Hali, Flowers... all get resigned.
2. Wiegmann can hold the fort at C another year.
3. Shaun Smith deserves a year at NT before we invest a high pick there.
4. I speculated as to our draft pick trades.

Here we go:

1. OLB Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue -- Extremely good motor, very strong guy.

2. WR Leonard Hankerson, Miami -- Pretty fast player, long arms and velcro hands.

3. WR/KR Randall Cobb, Kentucky -- A bigger version of Dexter McCluster, but he is more of a slot receiver, whereas McCluster is best running the ball.

4. NT Ian Williams, Notre Dame -- Pioli and Crennel don't need belt-busters, they just want extremely hard workers at the nose position.

5. RB Jamie Harper, Clemson -- Fairly versatile big back, with decent speed.

5 (Magee + 6th). OT Darius Morris, Temple -- Pure right tackle material with a ton of upside.

6 (Page). S Chris Culliver, South Carolina -- My guess is that Pioli wants a lot more pure speed at free safety.

7. QB Mitch Mustain, USC -- Career backup at USC with good intangibles? Sounds familiar....

First, I appreciate the effort and ideas. These types of threads should always generate lively and good-natured discussion.

1. Why did we force some of our best players to resign?
2. If McCluster is best running the ball, we're ****ed. And I'll be pissed at adding a slot receiver in a traditional day-one selection.
3. "A bigger version of McCluster" made me laugh, since Cobb is only about 185.
4. Not a fan of the Kerrigan pick. There will be better value, IMO, at that selection.
5. 7th-round QB picks are stupid, IMO.

Don't have a problem with this.

Would prefer to see them get Justin Houston, though. Guessing Torrey doesn't fall into the 2nd.

Looks like a classic Patriots pick to me. If they stay at Oakland's spot, he'll probably be the guy. Classic Belichick/Parcells LOLB. Wouldn't surprise me to see Miami go after him either.

I'd like to believe that Pioli & Crennel see the value of a Wilfork & Rodgers. At least I hope so.

Otherwise, we'll never get strong against the run.

Can't have a NT at just barely over 3 bills. And before someone mentions the 1 example in Jay Ratliff, you can list several, several others who are the opposite.

I'd agree. Highly unlikely either is there. Especially after the Senior bowl week Hankerson had. Houston and Hankerson in the first two rounds would have been a dream come true. I just can't see any way he is there in the second.

I appreciate the effort too, but any plan that leaves Casey Wiegmann at C and Shaun Smith at NT as starters gets a big hell no from me.

We'll be lucky to win 6 games if we go into next year's schedule that weak up the middle on both sides of the line.

Just my opinion. Now, if you'd predicated that we picked up one of the veteran FA NT's and a C as well, I could get behind just about any draft scenario. As it is, we really don't have an NFL quality starter at either spot.

don't hate the picks, but we can't justify drafting 2 wrs while running out street trash at NT for the 3rd ****ing year...

i think the simple solution is FA...go get a vet WR, spend some damn money...and also draft a WR, but just 1...if you bring in a solid vet you can afford to wait till the 3rd/4th for a slot/burner type

or maybe there is a fat body in FA, but we have to upgrade...the whole defense collapses if your NT is getting his ass handed to him, but think of a good NT as bonus multiplier for Dorsey and our LBs..i liked smith at de better than NT anyways

i also disagree that McCluster is best a RB...

i think we go OLB/RT in the first

then wr/nt
then wr/nt/C etc...

I agree with that. Although I also think that FA needs to be scoured both for o-line and for potential NTs as well.

Although I think if we do want a solid long-term starter at NT, we'll have to draft one.

Agree with you on McCluster, too. He isn't Danny Woodhead, no matter how much people want him to be. He's 25 pounds too light for that. He needs to be getting the ball primarily in space on the other side of the LoS.
