Anybody here ever actually run the 40?

Curious to see if we have any other athletes out here.

I don't have a stopwatch. Maybe I should see if one of my friends does and get some jackass to time me.

What's your 40 time?

There are plenty of superior athletes that do not get offers to play college football. There was a kid at my school who ran a 4.59 and could lift the gym. My high school coach gave him the starting HB position without even seeing him play. After two games into the season after 5 fumbles and never breaking any shoestring tackles, he never played another down. An amazing athlete with no football skill will not be just "given" a scholarship to play football. That is just stupid. Larry Johnson was not just strong and fast, he had football awareness. Yes he sucked at the end of his career, but he was not just some track athlete with muscles, he was a football player.

Why we are arguing over hand times and censored times is beyond me. Everyone knows you are slower by censored times. If you move it starts, if your first move isn't forward you already lost time. By the time guys are at the combine there are only two ways to improve their 40 time, starts and flexibility. I'm sure there are only a handful of hs's in the nation who have the capability to use censored time for 40's.

FTR i never thought you were lying. my only bone of contention was the fact that there are SO many that say they hit that.

IIRC your post said about 10% of the guys at that football camp could after training for it.

i can actually believe that but to hear that there are THOUSANDS (thanks dane) in the us every year that can just sounds lke some kids and coaches that inflated theit numbers for what ever reason

To be fair as well, thousands is not that large of a number when you consider the sheer amount of kids who are running 40s every spring, and fall. The articles I posted also refer to the statement that I was trying to make that out outlines the point that a fast, or.....not so fast 40 time, hardly translates to an athlete being a good football player or not, as our titan friend was also getting at.

i get the point that a fast guy doesnt necessarily SP? have to be a good football player. and i agree.

BUT when we have people here claiming to run SUB 4.5 thats where i have an issue with how they were timed.

Out of ALL of the people here that posted their 40 times from high school and college, how many have stated they ran a sub-4.5?

well two on the first page at 80 ppp. and dirk so that makes three i know of for sure.

one said he ran a 4.29. sportsshrink said his fastest was 4.45, dirk said 4.3-4.4 consistently.

now how many people have given times that werent obviously BS?

Mine certainly wasn't. I'm sure Kerobos was accurate with his time, as were Doomy, DJ, Beach Tribe and several others.

I don't know Sportshrink but I'd be surprised if Dirk was outright lying. I think it's possible that he was timed at 4.45 but unless it was laser timing, it probably wasn't accurate because that's freakishly fast.

But I'm certainly not going to claim he's lying.

i'm not calling ANYONE a liar. not one person in this thread.

i dispute the accuracy of the person timing them if it wasnt electronically timed.

and dirk said sub 4.4. on occasion not 4.45.
