***OFFICIAL Walterfootball.com Mock Draft Thread***

He updates his mock draft like once a week.....so I'll just post them when I see them.

http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2011.php

#23 - Kansas City Chiefs: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

A list of players who have lined up across from Dwayne Bowe this season: Chris Chambers, Terrance Copper and Verran Tucker. Bleh.

Jonathan Baldwin has struggled this year amid quarterbacking issues, but he's still a physical freak at 6-5, 230.
Quote:
#54 - Kansas City Chiefs: Jabaal Sheard, DE/OLB, Pittsburgh

The Chiefs have only one reliable pass-rusher. Adding a solid complement across from Tamba Hali would take Kansas City's defense to the next level.
Quote:
#87 - Kansas City Chiefs: Christian Ballard, DE/DT, Iowa

The Chiefs could use some help up front; they've struggled against the run lately after a great start to the season in that department.

Greg Cox's 5 round mock - Updated 04/23/2011

Quote:

21. Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
The Chiefs have problems at right tackle. Barry Richardson and Ryan O'Callaghan are not starters on a team with aspirations of winning division titles. They have visited with Nate Solder and I could see them sitting him for a season, then possibly even shifting Branden Albert to the right and letting him take on the blind side.

55. Quan Sturdivant, ILB, North Carolina
Once again, I have to predict how the Chiefs feel about Andy Studebaker at outside linebacker. This time I assume they are fine with him forming a bookend with Tamba Hali, and they turn their attention to finding someone to pair inside with Derrick Johnson to help their run defense.

86. Jerrell Powe, NT, Mississippi
Phil Taylor's medical situation probably rules him out in the first round which will leave the Chiefs looking for a nose tackle prospect on day two. Jerrell Powe gets pushed up the board because guys capable of filling that role are hard to come by.

118. Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse
Free Jamaal Charles is a popular sentiment among fans on Twitter, but I was just fine with how he was used. Running backs have a longer shelf life without being handed the ball over 300 times (or more) every season.

Delone Carter gives them a player to replace Thomas Jones who has hit the wall. I am not wild about putting him this high, but they need a big back and there are not many available.

135. Kris O'Dowd, C, USC
Offensive linemen can play well into their 30s, but Casey Wiegmann is getting close to 40.

140. Jeremy Beal, DE/OLB, Oklahoma
I am indecisive on where to put Jeremy Beal and whether or not to give the Chiefs an outside linebacker. I have solved both problems with this pick. At this juncture Beal is not a high risk player, but could surprise with his ability to make plays opposite of Tamba Hali if he gets a chance.

Going to be shocked if we don't come away from this draft with a QB and/or WR. The update isn't terrible, aside from the disastrous first round, which is an enormous "aside."

I'd rather wait until the 5th or later to get a RB.

Hate that mock. Like Dareus but could do without Phil Taylor, especially since they have guys like Adrian Clayborn, Martez Wilson, Rahim Moore, and Stephen Paea are picked right after Taylor in that mock. I would JIMP if Clayborn is sitting there for Denver in the second round.

Don't like Quinton Carter in the 3rd either.

Updated 04/25/2011:

Quote:

21. Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
In 2009, Scott Pioli drafted for positional value when he selected Tyson Jackson. Last year, he went the "best player available" route with Eric Berry. Both draft strategies would come into play here with Nate Solder.

Kansas City has a gaping hole at offensive tackle. I'm not a big fan of Branden Albert, but the huge void is at right tackle, where Barry Richardson struggled last year.

Solder, one of the top talents on the board, would be an instant upgrade on the right side, and could eventually transition to left tackle if Albert doesn't improve. Greg is hearing from a source that the Chiefs really like Solder.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Phil Taylor, NT - Pioli needs his Vince Wilfork. Unfortunately, Phil Taylor was diagnosed with an inoperable foot condition, which could cause him to drop out of the first round.

2. Brooks Reed or Akeem Ayers, DE/OLB - Kansas City needs help across from Tamba Hali.

Pick change; previously Gabe Carimi, OT

55. Sam Acho, DE/OLB, Texas
The Chiefs have only one reliable pass-rusher. Adding a solid complement across from Tamba Hali would take Kansas City's defense to the next level.

86. Edmond Gates, WR, Abilene Christian
A list of players who have lined up across from Dwayne Bowe this season: Chris Chambers, Terrance Copper and Verran Tucker. Bleh.

Edmond Gates' stock is soaring right now after a brilliant Combine and Pro Day. The Chiefs have shown interest in him.

118. Ricky Stanzi, QB, Iowa
The Chiefs will owe Matt Cassel a ton of money in the near future if they decide to stick with him. They need to groom a young quarterback just in case Cassel's abysmal playoff performance wasn't a fluke.

135. Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse
Kansas City acquired this selection from Tampa Bay for Alex Magee.

Thomas Jones, 33 in August, is owed $3 million in 2011. He wasn't very effective this past season, so even though the Chiefs said they plan on bringing him back, that could be a smokescreen of some sort. If so, Delone Carter would be a very cheap alternative. Carter has drawn some comparisons to Maurice Jones-Drew.

140. Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame
Scott Pioli needs his Vince Wilfork. If he doesn't take Phil Taylor at No. 21, he'll have to somehow secure a nose tackle in Rounds 2-5.

199. Jason Kelce, C, Cincinnati
ESPN's Bill Williamson reported that there's a 50-percent chance that Casey Wiegmann, 38 in July, will retire this offseason. The Chiefs need a successor and some insurance just in case Wiegmann hangs it up.

223. Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State
It would not surprise me at all if the Chiefs double dipped at receiver in the 2011 NFL Draft. There's just no talent at the position beyond Dwayne Bowe.

I'd like to see the Chiefs get Gates from Abilene Christian. He could be their
version of Johnny Knox from the same school.

Walter said the chiefs are trying to trade up for Julio Jones in his new mock. I don't know how reliable his sources are but that is interesting. I think we have too many holes to give up most of our draft for one player but Jones is the full package at wr. Gotta believe we would need to go up to 9 at the latest because the skins would want him at 10. And the lowest he would possible go is is to the rams at 14.
