This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

I'm jumping way ahead here. We should wait to analyze the final results later. Yes, I get it. But I can't help but think of the reaction and potential fallout of another also-ran season in St. Louis.
It won't be pretty. And it shouldn't be.
This is the fifth season on the books since the 2006 Cardinals won the World Series.
The Cardinals have qualified for the postseason only once in the previous four seasons. They haven't won a postseason game since the final out of that '06 World Series. And a failure to return to the playoffs in 2011 would make it just one postseason trip in five years.
That would be difficult to rationalize considering the higher standards established when owner Bill DeWitt Jr. and manager Tony La Russa took over in 1996.
A team anchored by Albert Pujols should finish first in this division more than once over a five-year period. This isn't the AL East. Or even the NL East.
And while the Cardinals don't spend at the level of the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox, the STL payroll has ranked among the top 13 annually over the past five seasons. This year, DeWitt jacked the payroll to $109 million, which ranks 10th in MLB. If anything, DeWitt isn't getting value for his payroll dollars.

Nearly 70 percent of the 2011 payroll is consolidated among six players: Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, Kyle Lohse, Berkman and Jake Westbrook.

After 2012, at least 3 of them, maybe 4 won't be here and off the books.

Another significant issue is roster composition. While technically that's the domain of GM John Mozeliak, it's also true that Mozeliak has to strive to find players compatible with La Russa's wishes.

Larussa is here for one more year, at the most. As long as they don't trade Miller/Martinzez and ruin Garcia in a year. We will survive.

Any time you can piss away 3 years of cost-controlled CF play (who happened to put up the #1 OPS among qualified CFers last season) to cater to the wishes of an insane lame-duck manager, you really have to.

I can't say how refreshing it will be to see LaRussa go, I just hope we don't replace him with Oquendo or keep Mozeliak. The entire regime needs to be shown the door. Rest assured, there will not be a long list of suitors for Moe's services as a GM.

Espn says it's the longest home run ever hit at Bush stadium III. We need this game. We are within striking distance of the wild card now. If we win the division or the wild card we will have been playing damn good ball going into the playoffs or we won't be in the playoffs.

Funny you mention this, because some asshat on VEB was trying to tell me that there was no downgrade in the move b/c Jay's and Colby's wOBAs were nearly identical.

As I said, that place is intolerably homeristic.

Great play by Furcal, there. Theriot couldn't do that if the batter had peg legs.
