Twitter has been really damaging to quite a few people. Just look at whats happened to Eric Blumberg.
Bernie Miklasz may have been directly responsible for MU losing Matt Painter through his absolutely absurdly irresponsible tweets and bulletin board postings.

He wasn't suspended, he's still the lead columnist in STL, he still has the highest rated radio program in the area and he's still going on national shows. He suffered absolutely no damage to his reputation whatsoever.

No, there is no accountability in the media anymore, that's precisely why they make shit like this up. If accountability existed, Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti and Mitch Albom would've been gone long ago.

Nobody's been proven wrong on this yet. Shit's still going to go down sooner or later.

The Big XII had 3 major markets outside of Texas. Denver just left. The other two are both in Missouri, and Mizzou wants out. You do the math.

If you think that Texas wants to carry a bunch of nobodies on its back while getting nothing in return, that's your prerogative. You are free to whistle past the graveyard. It seems unlikely to me, though.

No it isn't simply media created.

But when the people meet as your stating it always comes ending up the same. Logical decisions get made with geography leading the way.

I do not for one second doubt how much more important the media markets are on the coast compared to anywhere in the midwest.

But more times than not presidents, regents, etc have the integrity to make the right decision for the long run.

Competition matters. You want successful programs to keep money coming in. That's what made Texas A&M supposedly trying to get into the SEC mind boggling to me. They have decades worth of work to do before they're ready to play those teams.

I might be in the minority, but as a fan, I can take and/or leave the Big 12... But I dont want to sit around another few years wondering whats going to happen. I would like to see KU's administration seek other conferences and see what happens?

You don't think they've done that? You think should KU wish to join a different conference it would be a done deal? I'm not sure what you mean by "see what happens," but it's a pretty clear picture, my man. LOL

I agree with you. If I'm Kansas, I'm looking everywhere for something to use as a flotation device in the event of a water landing.

People keep talking about 4 superconferences, but I think there will be a fifth. 3 will be the SEC, B1G, and the PAC. The other 2 will be whatever rises from the ashes of the ACC, Big East, Big XII, and the plums from the mid-majors.

I'm just going on certain assumptions, I don't claim to know what the SEC is going to do. It is a general assumption that 16 represents the "Super-Conference" number. It was generally thought that one of the reasons giving the SEC pause about A&M was finding a suitable school to even out the divisions with it.

The PAC has already let it be known they are actively looking to expand to 16. Its not that big a secret. Its known that the SEC and B!G want to stay at 12, but will expand if the market dictates it. I'm just going with these general assumptions on a completely assumption based topic.

And what I mean "see what happens" is maybe Kansas leaves early and doesnt wait around for Texas to tell them where they are going and what they are doing...

There almost has to be.

There's no way that every major school West of the Missouri River ends up in the PAC 10. Ultimately, geography almost makes it impossible for there to be 4 super-conferences (especially if one of them is consolidated in the upper mid-west like the B1G).

Most likely scenario would seem to be that the SEC and the B1G expand westward, the PAC10 snapping up the best programs through the Rockies and the ACC taking the leftovers, up to and including Louisville and Memphis if they haven't been taken already.

But that's a pretty damn scary scenario for KU as it leaves open a very realistic scenario that they're left out altogether.

If the B12 was run by a legitimate commissioner instead of a Texas stooge, they'd have been in prime position to situate themselves as that 5th superconference. TCU, Air Force, BYU and Louisville would've been a nice little group of 4 to add to the conference. Make an even revenue split and NE/Colorado probably don't get the itch to bolt.

They have the geography and they had 3 traditional marquis programs in Tx, OU and Neb. It's completely inexcusable that the B12 has suddenly become the hunted rather than the hunter.

Alas, this conference is nothing if not reactive.

I know everyone keeps saying this is football driven, and it is. But they keep wanting to pretend basketball doesn't matter at all, but the top commissioners know that it does and here's why:

One of the reasons for the big disparity in revenues is because the conference gets to keep all the BCS money while the NCAA gets to keep the majority of the NCAA basketball money. The NCAA Tournament comprises almost the entire operating cash the NCAA uses to put on tournaments in all non football sports for all member institutions and their jobs for regulating the system.

If Super Conferences come about, it is highly likely these Super Conferences will form their own post season basketball tournament. Exactly how that affects the NCAA and all the Non-BCS activities it supports is not exactly clear, but it is not "chump change". And if the format changes, basketball won't be viewed as just an afterthought like baseball.
