It's Raider Week

There are only two weeks out of the year where I miss Marty Schottenheimer, and those are the two weeks we play the Raiders.

Forget Sucking for Luck and all the turbulence that's characterized the season so far.

It's time to sack up, go into that crap hole, and pull their ankle bracelets through their collective throats. It's time to atone for last year's embarrassment at Arrowhead and the one that got away in their crib.

It's time to invoke the ghosts of Andre Rison on MNF, Marcus Allen, Larry Johnson plunging in with no time left, and Todd Marijuanavich.

Raiders fans are walking around like they're going to beat the piss out of us on Sunday. BS. Let's do this!

Actually, the Raiders defense sucks in every phase. Don't be surprised when Castle averages 3 yards per completion and Thomas Jones averages 2.1 yards per carry. We'll be running the ball into the tackles all day.

There used to be a time when I would look at the prospect of a losing season as long as two of the wins were against the raiders then that season was not all that bad.

And why are her winter gloves tossed across the windshield? There are so many questions about what happened this chilly Sunday afternoon outside of Arrowhead stadium which will never be answered. Unless someone else in attendance at the Chiefs/Ravens playoff game witnessed this couple boinking away their playoff letdown in public, we'll probably never know. I wonder if the vehicle belonged to a Ravens fan? If so, Eagles fans should take note, as leaving a trail of sex sludge on visiting fans' vehicles is much more creative than typical drunken vandalism.

UPDATE: One of the individuals in this photo contacted us about their unwanted fame. This is a married couple. They don't remember a single thing after halftime, they said. But their heads, per their request, have been removed until this dies down a bit in the next couple days.

In the past 2 games, the Raiders have turned it up in terms of blitzing and are now allowing fewer yards per play. We are no longer a 100% Man Defense. We now mix in zones, fire zones, safety blitzes, etc.

Aaron Curry is an upgrade over Quentin Groves and Chinedum Ndukwe is an upgrade over Jerome Boyd. Raiders defense has improved and you will experience it first hand when you come to Oakland this Sunday.

OK, the Raiders are the better team right now especially since getting Palmer. It will take Palmer this season to get all the playbook but this Sunday he should be fine with 10-20 plays as long as the Raiders are establishing the run. The goofy thing is that this is a division rivalry and anything can happen.....No doubt the Raiders are the better team right now....but this game, anything can happen

It's all going to come down to Cassel. Can he handle pressure? Or will he fold his tent?

Oakland Raiders notebook: Defense adds some oomph with added blitzes, pressure
By Jerry McDonald

Hue Jackson isn't limiting his aggressive nature to player acquisition and offensive play-calling. The Raiders coach has authorized defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan to dial up the pressure on defense.

"I don't want to play the same thing all the time," Jackson said after practice Thursday. "I think it's been pretty vanilla here in the past, and I think guys have kind of known how to attack us."

According to the statistical service Stats, LLC, the Raiders brought pressure 8.5 times per game on runs and passes in the first four games, and 28.5 times per game in the last two against Houston and Cleveland.

Teams averaged 9.6 yards per play against the Oakland blitz through the first four and 3.4 in the last two.

Against the Browns, free safety Michael Huff came free and was upended by a blocker, forcing a Colt McCoy incompletion on his first pass attempt of the day. On the next play, safety Matt Giordano blitzed and got a sack.

Oakland kept up the pressure, and the Browns never got in sync.

Kansas City coach Todd Haley, whose Chiefs play at Oakland on Sunday, told reporters by conference call the frequency of blitzing is the biggest difference in the Raiders.

"You're seeing some multiple pressures, and those pressures aren't only coming from the linebackers; you're seeing safeties and some unique, exotic coverages tied to those pressures," Haley said.

Although the Raiders still play a lot of man-to-man defense, backing a blitz with zones wasn't something McCoy expected to see.

"He came up to us after the game and said, 'I thought you guys were going to play more man,' " safety Mike Mitchell said. "When we can throw in some wrinkles with some different looks, they're not going to know what to expect."

The Raiders sacked Houston quarterback Matt Schaub three times and McCoy twice but pressured them throughout as both had passing efforts below 50 percent. Schaub misfired on 24 of his last 39 throws.

"When you watch the film, you'll definitely see a little bit more variety from what I've seen in past years with the defense and the defensive scheme and the pressures that they bring," Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel said by conference call.

"We're definitely more colorful now that we're not as vanilla, we're not as predictable as we've been in years past," Raiders cornerback Stanford Routt said. "Try to confuse the quarterback and get him to make decisions and reads in the actual play rather than already being able to make a presnap read and determination where he wants to go with the ball."

The Raiders received an extension until Friday to sell more tickets and avoid a blackout of their game against Kansas City. They have sold out their first three home games this season -- against the New York Jets, New England and Cleveland.

In past years, extensions have usually been followed by the announcement of a sellout the following day.

Jackson said he still hasn't decided whether Carson Palmer or Kyle Boller will start at quarterback against the Chiefs and seemed to enjoy that various media outlets already have named Palmer the starter.

"I just laugh at all the reports -- 'He's starting!' Everybody has made the decision for me," Jackson said. "Thank you. I appreciate it."

He said he's likely to make his decision Friday evening.

Neither Palmer nor Boller was available during the media access period.

Place-kicker Sebastian Janikowski was limited in practice and was added to the injury report with a left hamstring injury. Jackson didn't seem overly concerned.

"We hope we can get him out there (Friday)," Jackson said.

Other players who were limited included tight end Richard Gordon (hand), Huff (ankle) and center Samson Satele (knee).

Players who didn't participate were middle linebacker Rolando McClain (ankle), fullback Marcel Reece (ankle), cornerbacks Chris Johnson (groin, hamstring) and Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring), running back Rock Cartwright (calf) and quarterback Jason Campbell (collarbone).

This one's interesting. Are we going to see the Chiefs that played well against the Chargers, or the Chiefs that shit the bed against Bills and Lions? How much can we take away from the fact they beat the 0-4 Vikings and the 0-5 Colts? Now nearly beating the Chargers tells me that they have the ability, but playing Oakland at home I can't really tell how this ones gonna go. I don't see ya all winning, but keeping it close is possible.

Raiders bringing in kickers today. They know they might have to shut down Sebastian Janikowski for a few weeks due to hamstring injury.
