"Official" 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Thread

This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

As soon as the 9th inning started the other night, this popped into my head.

Trade Holliday to the Nationals.

I heard two different guys on two different stations suggest it within an hour of each other on Saturday afternoon.

I don't see anyone taking on his contract.
Why would the Nationals want another overpaid FA OF on the wrong side of 30?

Honestly, if you were to trade Holliday, the place that makes the most sense is Boston, as Crawford is redundant with Ellsbury already there, the fanbase is ready to excoriate him, and he would be an excellent fit in our lineup, provided Tony would let him run.

Otherwise, you could possibly spin Holliday to the Yankees for Nick Swisher, just hoping to rid yourself of the contract.

I wouldn't mind bringing Crawford onboard. Want no part of Swisher tho. I actually like Holliday and I think I am a little biased because he has such a terrible WS. Hopefully he was just hurt, as he had a pretty tough year with injuries.

Holliday has this cool little clause in his contract allowing him to camp out in St. Louis without a care in the world and collect a pay check.

I'm used to it. It's been going on on Cubs forums for years with our LF.

Every offseason/trading deadline there's a ****ing flood of stupid "Trade Soriano to X for X."

I guess the only hope one would have is the player would get sick of losing and waive the NTC to be dealt to a team on the verge. But, in Soriano's case, I don't think he gives a shit.

I like his stuff it's just the mental part that scares me a little. But he is only 25 so hopefuly he gets it all straight.

Who in there right mind would want Crawford for Holliday. Crawford signed what could be the worst contract in the history of baseball and you want to bring that here. Crawford has hit over .310 one time (1) Holliday has not hit over .310 three times (3) including his first two seasons. Crawford is Juan Pierre with a better glove while being paid 20 million

Can some please explain to me the Holliday hate. I understand he had a shit World Series, but have we already forgot the LCS were he came up huge? He had dealt with injures most of the season yet still had a higher OBS and OPS then "King" Albert.

Carl Crawford is a 5-7 WAR player most years, you stupid ****.

Batting average is a stupid ****ing statistic to use, BTW.

He didn't. He flipped a routine flyball into the jet stream for a solo homer and had a bunch of seeing eye singles. BFD.

I'm still in shock from this whole journey. I grew up a HUGE cardinal fan. Was born in 87 and my first word was Ozzie. I talked to my dad the other day about it, and he was just in shock as well. Said It's been the craziest most nailbiting enjoyable thing he has ever been thru as a fan.

In all honesty it tops the 06 championship in my eyes. And I was at the clinching game in 06.
