They dont wanna hear the kid scream when the tit or bottle is taken away, so they just keep giving it to them.

If weaning is done gently, and at the right time this won't be an issue. I very gently weaned our daughter at 19 months without any tears. We had to wean due to my high risk pregnancy, and I told her daily that we would be doing naptime, bedtime, etc differently.
