Well, he is getting a rushed debut early because we have like five pitchers on the DL. Plus he's probably not the sharpest in his first game against a lineup full of future hall-of-famers. I'd say its a little early for Pete to declare him a bust.

Guess if we are going to bring up just any guy with a live arm we might as well bring up Montgomery too. He supposedly has "great stuff" and they've got almost identical stats across the board other than Smith is 2.5 to 1 SO/BB to Montgomery's 1.5 to 1 SO/BB. Hasn't really translated into anymore runs given up though. They've only got a .3 ERA, .01 WHIP, and 1/3 innings pitched difference between them. Bring'em all up!!

Why would you not have Gordon lay down a sac bunt in that scenario? You know Pettite against left handers is going to induce a groundout. Sacrifice bunt scores one and advances another to scoring position and brings up a righty. Poor game management there, imo.
