Yup, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that river is in trouble. Those things indirectly kill off other fish by eating all of what sustains the normal bait fish and since they seem to breed by masturbation they can take over a waterway in a hurry.

I think those things are already responsible for injuring and killing people.
From what I understand they can grow to 6 lbs or better in a hurry so just imagine that smacking someone upside the head.

Earlier this season I noticed some in the Kansas reservoir systems as well. You aren't allowed to transfer fish between bodies of water but the infestation seems inevitable, if not imminent.

You would think a lot of fish had a potential to be a good thing if you could containt them but the ironic thing is that they are bad eating due to being very bony and tasteless. So even when they go out catching them in the competitions they have they don't get to really feed people with them.

Midwest rivers are getting flooded with those damn things.

We were floating in canoes a couple of weeks ago and got bombed by about a hundred. Enough that some got paddle whacked.

Those are very invasive and devastate a fishery. Hate them.
