Johnson is scheduled to earn close to $130 million over the next eight seasons, including $113.5 million over the final seven years of the deal, league sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

The contract includes $4.5 million in an existing roster bonus that's due on the final year of his rookie deal.

The deal also includes $53 million in guaranteed money, with Johnson's $1.25 million base salary in 2012 guaranteed, and $36 million due in signing and option bonuses. According to La Canfora, $11.5 million in future salary is guaranteed for injury only.

The contract makes Johnson -- who scorched the NFL with 96 catches for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2011 -- the highest-paid wide receiver in league history, surpassing the eight-year, $120 million deal that Larry Fitzgerald signed with the Arizona Cardinals before last season.

Sorry, but it's true. It's like having a pinch hitter that rests the bat on his shoulder and takes every pitch. You're defending him because he's never swung at a bad pitch, while ignoring that he frequently strikes out anyway, and has never had a hit or driven in a run.

It's easy to use hindsight to say there's never been a guy we should have taken. But look at the guys that have been throwing passes for this team, and tell me we would be any worse off for having tried.

You go right ahead and fill your trophy case with the "at least we didn't draft Casey Clausen" awards. I'm setting my sights a little higher.

There are plenty.

I'm still a fan of the IDEA Pioli holds on to but his inability to let go of Casshole will probably be the concrete in his boots...

Yep.

I received this rep message recently, and while it's geared towards Cassel, it applies to this conversation.

It's kind of amazing the lies people on here will tell themselves in an effort to protect their own loyalty to a team. It's almost like they themselves feel responsible for the shit mess we have at QB. It's unreal.
He's right. Folks will do just about anything to rationalize bad decisions made by this regime.

I disagree about the Gonzo trade.

The guy wanted out, and he was, from where I sat, never really a good teammate.

I think it was a mistake for Carl to give him a big contract a few years ago.

So we shouldn't be loyal to the team?

I grew up a Chiefs fan, I love watching Chiefs football. It's worse when they suck and better win they are good.

Just because they don't have who I want at qb, doesn't make me not be loyal and root for them to win football games.

I also realize that regime's should be held responsible for the decisions they make. Thats something I would like to see changed a little bit. This whole "Patriot Way" not talking and secret shit is fine if you are winning SB's. But we aren't. So I feel we deserve some answers to things we aren't getting answers for.

In all honesty I feel that there are questions raised here on CP that are better than what are asked of our GM. Questions about how our qb can be praised and continuously laced as the starter when we hasn't beaten winning teams.

Anyway, rant over.
