Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.

Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

If Pioli is as insecure as everyone reports and only cares about his "image". the only thing that will get Cassel yanked is fear of losing when we could have won.

Well, common sense tells me that is how it should be, problem is I realized last year common sense and Pioli's methods are not compatible thought processes.

This is what I'm worried all this is about...we're still trying to jump start a car that lacks a piston...

this is spot on and has been since Cassel's first season in KC.

His entire NFL career he was gifted a starting role, and then given the keys to a franchise based on one season. He had do absolutely nothing in college to justify being given a chance to lead a franchise and he literally sat for 4 or 5 years in the NFL and did nothing.

No other QB was gifted a team. Every other QB has had success at the College level, has shown success on other NFL teams, etc. Cassel was gifted everything. A good Patriots team, an entire Chiefs franchise for 3 years, 60 million dollar contract etc. You can make a sound argument that with his resume he deserved none of those.

I'm not sure he IS a good teammate. But he is a SPOILED teammate.

and before you say Tom Brady, there was still controversy between playing Drew Bledsoe over Tom Brady coming off injury. So Tom Brady had to not only earn that starting job when he stepped in, he had to run Beldsoe out of town in the process. He did that. He also had success at Michigan. Cassel never had anything at USC. And he was gifted a starting NFL QB job because our idiot GM was dumb enough to make that trade. Gifted. Not earned.

So you're fond of Cassel. That's nice.

I've always been of the opinion that, if given a large enough sample size you still have a question as to if the player is 'the guy'.....then he isn't.
