Electronics Adding Aux Port to stock car stereo

I know ISimple makes a product to do this, but I wanted to see if anyone used anything others to add an aux cable to a stock stereo.

My wife has a 2004 Honda CRV and loves the stock radio she has in it. She's adamant she doesn't want it switched out for a newer after market radio.

I'd like to upgrade this for her for x-mas. She can't user her Ipod in the car and it's driving her crazy.

She should upgrade.

I have an 05 Ford Five Hundred. The factory unit had a 6-disc changer and played mp3 CDs. Sounded like shit. I put a Kenwood in it and the sound is incredible compared to what it was.

In my experience, women are clueless about this stuff.

I do not like any of the FM modulators.

you may be able to hide it somewhere and see only the cord-depending where the IPOD usually sits

easiest solution is an FM transmitter for your MP3 player, nice because it goes anywhere the iPod goes and you can use it with any FM receiver. (home, other car, etc)

You can get an iPod specific one or I prefer one that is universal so you aren't tied to any one device in case you want to use it with an Android phone or whatever. (like if Apple changes their connector, again)

I've tried. Believe me I have.

She's adament that she wants a new vehicle in a few years and she doesn't want to put anything new into it. I told her we could take it out, she didn't care.

I may just say **** it and grab her a good aftermarket.

Since I have a great JBL stock in my Toyota, I don't know what's good anymore. What brand makes a quality unit that could give handsfree as well?

Ummmmmm. Get the cigarette lighter adapter like everyone else has for the last 15-20 yrs.

Did that. It will not work with the new Iphone. I purchased adapters to try to get the one we had to work, no dice.

I have a couple of those Belkin FM transmitters. They run around 20-30 bucks and work fine. That's an easier/cheaper solution.

Can't get them to work. Bought the lighting adapter, still didn't work.

Yep. Just borrow the vehicle one day and get a stereo.

Huh, that's odd. You sure something's not wrong with either the car, stereo or iPod? It's a fairly generic/simple setup. Plug it in and go.

Some stereos have aux inputs in the back of the unit, which you can buy some cables and/or converters and run a connection to the glove-box or center console.

Now, you'd have to do some research to be sure the unit she has can do this. If it can, you can probably get the parts cheap on ebay/amazon.

I added a kit like this to my 2005 Silverado and it worked well. In that rig, the stock stereo was integrated into the electronics and it was a pain to change out so the kit was a lifesaver.

All my other cars, I've replaced the stock HU as soon as I could.

Only $75 and it does full iPod control as well as have an Aux in. She doesn't care that much about high fidelity but it sounds pretty good anyway. To be honest, that car is so noisy that spending more than a $100 is a waste.
