She should upgrade.
I have an 05 Ford Five Hundred. The factory unit had a 6-disc changer and played mp3 CDs. Sounded like shit. I put a Kenwood in it and the sound is incredible compared to what it was. In my experience, women are clueless about this stuff. I do not like any of the FM modulators. |

stock radio-FM converter
you may be able to hide it somewhere and see only the cord-depending where the IPOD usually sits

easiest solution is an FM transmitter for your MP3 player, nice because it goes anywhere the iPod goes and you can use it with any FM receiver. (home, other car, etc)
You can get an iPod specific one or I prefer one that is universal so you aren't tied to any one device in case you want to use it with an Android phone or whatever. (like if Apple changes their connector, again) |

How can you love a stock radio?
You should show her the difference between a stock radio and a good aftermarket one.

She's adament that she wants a new vehicle in a few years and she doesn't want to put anything new into it. I told her we could take it out, she didn't care. I may just say **** it and grab her a good aftermarket. Since I have a great JBL stock in my Toyota, I don't know what's good anymore. What brand makes a quality unit that could give handsfree as well?

Did that. It will not work with the new Iphone. I purchased adapters to try to get the one we had to work, no dice.

I have a couple of those Belkin FM transmitters. They run around 20-30 bucks and work fine. That's an easier/cheaper solution.

Can't get them to work. Bought the lighting adapter, still didn't work.

Huh, that's odd. You sure something's not wrong with either the car, stereo or iPod? It's a fairly generic/simple setup. Plug it in and go.

Some stereos have aux inputs in the back of the unit, which you can buy some cables and/or converters and run a connection to the glove-box or center console.
Like this kit: http://www.gtacarkits.com/honda_crv_...06_car_kit.php Now, you'd have to do some research to be sure the unit she has can do this. If it can, you can probably get the parts cheap on ebay/amazon. |

I added a kit like this to my 2005 Silverado and it worked well. In that rig, the stock stereo was integrated into the electronics and it was a pain to change out so the kit was a lifesaver.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541ISAS...ta.html?tp=120 All my other cars, I've replaced the stock HU as soon as I could. I just put this in my wife's 2006 CR-V: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o06_s00_i00 Only $75 and it does full iPod control as well as have an Aux in. She doesn't care that much about high fidelity but it sounds pretty good anyway. To be honest, that car is so noisy that spending more than a $100 is a waste. |
