My guess is that there are a lot of receivers out there who can catch a ball that's thrown in their numbers. It's harder for us to find receivers because we need guys with 60-inch verticals and 12-foot arm spans. Those guys don't come along every day.

Yeah, but Collie was an utter stud in college. By his junior year, he held nearly every receiving record at BYU and a number of NCAA records. Soft hands, precise route running, fast, etc. Give a guy like Manning a receiver like that and shit just tends to happen. Chiefs could have had him in the fourth as he was sitting there when they picked. Instead, they went with Don Washington when they already had Carr and Flowers at CB.
The 2009 Draft left a greasy shit stain ring that's going to take a long time to scrub away. |

Bowe will be fine. Cutting him would be stupider than trading for Cassel. He put up solid numbers with Huard and Thigpen for sakes and he made JaMarcus Russell the number one pick. He does have drop problems but so does alot of great receivers.

Timely penalty?
Albert didn't hold at all on that play.

That was one of the biggest BS calls I had ever seen. And the phantom PI on Arenas.
"What? Manning missed? Had to have been PI....throw the flag.."

I feel for Cassel in this scenario. He made the throw he needed to make to give us the lead. Then on the very next play he made the throw he needed to make to get us close to continuing that drive. Bowe dropped them both.
This is partly why Haley always harps about us not having any margin for error. You only get so many opportunities to make those big plays. |

Note: I am not apologizing for Cassel. He needs to sack up and make the next big throw, even after being let down twice in a row. So far, he hasn't shown the ability to do that, and that's on him.

Well, Cassel will have his chances this Sunday with the Texans. I'm sure the Chiefs will game plan to attack the Texan's secondary like every other team has. Cassel and Bowe will have an opportunity to redeem themselves.

Cassell and Bowe converted that 4th & long on the Chiefs' last drive, and that did get them into field goal range. That play was after Chambers' drop and Cassell's goofy fumble play, so making that play was clutch.
I think the 4th and 2 on the first drive was poorly executed since Bowe had 4-5 defenders in postion to make the play. Someone else would have been ready to uncover if Cassell tried to read the defense. The thing about Cassell is that he can make a good throw and he makes the good throw sometimes. It does seem like he does not have the knack for making the best read, but to be honest, if Succop makes his last FG attempt, and if the Chiefs recovered the onside kick, I would have had some faith that Cassell could have lead a drive for the tying TD. Since the Chiefs 4-3 start in 2007 turned into fool's gold after LJ's injury against Green Bay. Cassell has been a better QB than anybody else the Chiefs have tried, including Thigpen, who could put up good numbers, but who never made a key play in the 4th quarter. Thigpen always never made the play when it mattered. Cassell has not proven that he can lead a playoff winning team, and he makes enough bad plays to make one reasonably doubt if he going to ever get there. but Cassell does make some plays.
