Where does eveyone stand on smoking bans?

I think it should be up to the owner, and would even be willing to have it up to the owner if you have to be 21 to enter. City wide is bullshit IMO

DC this bunny trail of the thread was an outgrowth of the Arrowhead discussion...If there were smoking places and no smoking places we wouldnt have this discussion at all. I have no problem if one wants to smoke, just dont want smokers to insist they can do it anyplace they want.

Fraz is just off on another of his rants or whatever they are.

In many ancient traditions, smoke is treated almost as a sacrament. That's why it's called Holy Smoke.

Many religions use incense, obviously. And other, older cultures used ceremonial wood and herb smoke to prepare for battle, cure sickness, and in purification rituals. None of this is any big secret, of course.

So, clearly, if people would simply make the claim that smoking bans are an intrusion on their religious beliefs, we could get past this problem.

I really don't care about the smoking ban. I don't smoke anymore. When I did, I was respectful of others who didn't. As a non-smoker I am glad smoking is banned where food is present. I don't frequent bars, so smoke 'em if you got 'em...

personally i really like the smoking bans, because when a place is full of smoke, it makes life much less enjoyable for people that don't even smoke in the first place.

It's like when somebody is in a restaurant and has a child that is screaming and crying and all you want the parents to do is take their little shit head out of the restaurant. its just about the same thing

If I own a bussiness I should have the right to allow smoking in it. Nonsmokers have the right not to enter. This is not a smoking issue it is a rights issue. If I open a cigar bar and patrons enjoy hanging out and smoking cigars why should this be banned? Nonsmokers do not have to enter!!!

I realize there is debate about how carcinogenic second hand smoke is, but if you believe it to be, I don't see how you can't support smoking bans:

Unless you also think that business owners shouldn't have to remove and replace the asbestos in their buildings. Even if it is your private property and your private business, you have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace for your employees.

Now if you see second hand smoke as nothing more than an annoyance and not a health danger, then I can see where people who are against smoking bans are coming from.

Second hand smoke has been proven to be a carcinogen. That fact alone should end the debate. No person has the right impose the consequences of their choices (or uncontrollable habits) onto others. What a person does to themselves is their choice as long as they don't harm others when doing so (a violation of that other person's right to choose for his or herself).

The same goes for cigarette butts. A cigarette butt, en masse, is a disgusting thing. And people who smoke take it for granted that God placed somebody else upon this earth to follow behind them and pick up their nasty-assed cigarette butts. In certain environments such as apartment complexes with young children, that can be a very unsanitary situation.

All that said, anyone interested in the statistics will find that wherever these smoking bans have been enforced, businesses have prospered. It's amazing how many people will spend money to go out for a meal or have a drink without having to breathe second hand smoke or have their clothes and hair smell like smoke after they get home.

I think it really should be up to the owner. But then again I started up shortly after the Ex left, so I'm biased again.

And if Phil is reading this, please feel free to insult me as usual about it.

I guess if you were really stupid you would walk to the middle of the street. Most people would probably walk down the side of the building, around a corner, etc.
