The Dolphins are rumored to be looking to trade cornerback Patrick Surtain.

He has one expensive year left on his contract. He may not fit Miami's new defense, which may veer away from constant press coverage.




Don't know what we could give for him, but I sure would like to have him.

If they are seriously worried about losing him or having to pay him after next season they might be willing to trade reasonably. A package that includes a serviceable veteran, a mid-round pick and the fifteenth pick in the first round might draw enough interest to get a deal done with a team that needs a lot of help.

If we were to make a trade, Miami would make sense, as they need a quality running back-and Johnson fits their offensive mold. We could then re-sign Blaylock to spell Holmes.

Miami needs a proven runner NOW. Johnson's late season production would make him mighty tempting, I should think.

With Surtain and Warfield, we'd have two quality corners and could draft best defensive athlete available. IF we could work a restructure into the deal, it'd be worth pulling the trigger.

No point in having Johnson share carries with the best back in the league if we can't get to the 'bowl before Roaf, Shields, Green, and company all retire anyway.

I'd be interested in Surtan but being the last year of his contract with a large enough salary to warrant a trade I would think that he's likely to be released into the free agent market.
