I'm surprised as Hell, but if he runs a real 4-3 defense he could be a middle of the pack defensive coordinator. Cover Two is far from his "expertise"(I use that word loosely). Herm entered a square peg in a round hole and it's just one more reason a GM with common sense will obviously suggest Herm has got go.

Was wondering why this took so long to hit Chiefsplanet. I seen that lastnight on the Coalition and was like whoa. Makes sense though. It really does. The other assistance are leaving as well. Gibbs and Pfiefer (or however you spell it) are gone.

You would think after running the Tampa 2 for three years he may not be an expert but would at least be adequate. He had a shit ton of time to get it right, he's just a bafoon.

Not surprised at all. I think he can be a much better Defensive Coordinator if allowed to install his own personal defensive philosophy.

****ing Teflon.

Under Vermeil it was no talent. Under Edwards it was the "wrong system." Under Mel Brooks it will be ____. When will this ****ing stop?

In Vermeil's last season as our Head Coach we had the 16th best defense in the NFL. Don't let that get in the way of your argument though.

Funny how the team as a whole can affect the play of a unit. When that "circus offense" scored a shit ton of points, it had a way of making opposing teams one dimensional.

Of course, it was Gun's brilliance (and vocal cords111) that made the difference. What happened in the following three seasons when more draft picks and FA dollars were used on the D? Herm? Carl? The chefs at Arrowhead?

He rode the coattails of Derrick Thomas. There is no excuse for his defenses having the same deficiencies year in and year out.

I want Gunther gone more than I want Herm gone. I'm glad as hell we didn't hire Schwartz.

IIRC, he even kept screwing around with DT too. And the moves he tried to do with DT turned out to be flops as well.

Gunther can be a competent D-coordinator again if not saddled by this garbage Cover-Who defense.

It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out. My bet is that he performs admirably and it shows to be a damning indictment of both Herm Edwards and this stupid defense he runs.

Really? As effective as he was when he wasn't saddled with it during the Vermeil years, or was able to run his own defense without anyone interfering during his head coaching days?

Man I can't wait for Gun to get canned...

He legitimately had no talent on those Vermeil teams.

I think he's an average to slightly above average D-coordinator when put in a situation where he can shape his defense (and not try to contort it to the whims of a !@#$tard head coach).

Because Detroit has a whole LOT of talent waiting for him.

He took over Greg Robinson's defense with the same talent, and the results were WORSE in 2004 than they were 2003.

I'm stunned actually. Only thing I can think of is what I mentioned earlier -- that Schwartz knows that all Gun is good for is motivating the players, and that Schwartz himself will be the brains behind the operation. Like when Marty and Gun were here.
