You know what is even sadder?

Joe Montana, in all the years that line was together, was the only QB that could do anything behind that outstanding O-Line, and he was so fragile that he still managed to not make it through that playoff season, and miss a number of regular season games in his two years as the Chiefs QB.

The fact that he was so fragile at that point in his career is why I viewed the trade for Montana a bad investment, and still do.

Had they acquired a better backup than Dave Krieg or Steve Bono to watch and learn, and take over in games that Montana missed to injury, the investment would have been a good one.

Krieg was a middle of the pack QB.

Not a guy that I would want to take over when Montana was lost to injury in the playoffs.

I don't know about that.

He went 3-2 as the starter when Montana went down and really played pretty mediocre.

Yea, i would agree with that. I remember he had a nice season in 92, but flopped in the playoffs against SD.

Man, if only we would have had a top QB in his prime in the 90s....we would have won at least 1 ship.

The thing that occurs to me is that it feels strange to see the Chiefs in "meaningful" games. That and to see a Chiefs defense that actually plays defense. It's kind of surreal.

By the way ... am I remembering this correctly ... ? You guys will know ...

Was the MNF game against the goats the one in which Marty benched DT at the start of the game for being late for a team meeting? Or, do I have that game confused with another one?

Anyhow, in one of the MNF goat games from that era, Marty did not start DT for disciplinary reasons ... a rare and pretty hard-ass move, to be sure ... dare I say it ..? Kind of a thing that Haley might do.

It's perfectly possible that people perceive previous practices imperfectly.

That said, Grunhard has often said that Thomas wasn't a great practice player, that his effort was not always 100 percent, and he could and would get beat by folks who had no right to even sniff his jock.

Basically, very similar to how LT is discussed. He, apparently, used to tell the Tuna that he had a tee time at such and such, and, magically, practice always ended in plenty of time for him to make the time.
