Honor students working two jobs being sent to jail for skipping school
After Tran's parents got divorced, supporting her older brother and younger sister fell to her. Her mother relocated out of state and her father often worked too late to come home, according to Mary Elliot, Diane Tran's boss at her weekend job.
After going to school from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tran worked full-time at a dry cleaner's. On weekends, she helped Elliot throw weddings. Tran said that some mornings it was just hard to get out of bed. This story really brings tears to my eyes. A normal 17 years old would spend most time in social networking if not doing homework. But there is always some rare individual like Diane Tran outshines her peers. And then there is a block head judge like the Honorable Moriarty to make the US court system a laughing stock. If a JotP is the same as a Judge, it would take a lot of public pressure to get this done.

It doesn't bring tears to my eyes. It really pisses me off.

I saw this before and something seems very off about the whole story, so I'm not sure what to say about it.
I'm baffled how sending her to jail is going to help her make it to school. Why are they sending her to jail and not the parent? |

If Ms. Tran is refusing to accept donations perhaps that money could go towards an impeachment campaign.

Her mom bailed and her dad doesn't come home. She's on that cusp where she is still obligated to fulfill the duties of a child but can be punished like an adult. It's a fragile time in someone's life and this judge is ****ing with her.

In a perfect world, ex-Judge Moriarity needs a suit cleaned for a job interview but doesn't get it in time because Ms. Tran stayed home to do her homework and get some sleep the night before.

I'm not saying it's okay for the judge to do this. It's stupid. But it's exactly what our judicial system has come down to these days.
But it certainly doesn't make my eyes water or anything close.

Yep, for those who haven't read the story: "We saw her trying to work and trying to go to school and trying to do all these things and then to have the judge put her in jail for missing school just seemed a little harsh," said Paul Dietzel, who helped raise the money for Diane Tran. HelpDianeTran.com is a project of the Louisiana Children's Education Alliance. But Tran didn't want the money: "There's some other kid out there struggling more ... than me," she said. Alright...now it's ok to cry... |

WOW! We never imagined that we would reach our initial goal of $100,000 to help Diane so quickly. Thank you all for your support for Diane! This fund is now closed. You can click here if you'd like to make a contribution directly to the Louisiana Children's Alliance and help them continue their fight for reform. Diane Tran is an 11th grade honor student at Willis High School in Houston (TX), who was placed in jail after repeated truancy. She works a full time job plus a part-time job while taking advancement and dual credit college level courses in high school. The Texas Judge ordered the exhausted Ms. Tran to pay a $100 fine and spend 24 hours in jail as a lesson. According to multiple news reports, she was warned that she was missing too many days of school. A judge in Texas actually put her in jail for truancy and is even trying to fine her. About Us HelpDianeTran.com is a project of the Louisiana Children's Education Alliance, a 501c3 organization. Website donated by Gatorworks. Online donations powered by Anedot. 100% of the money raised (less any credit card processing or transaction costs) will go into a trust account in Diane Tran's name. If you have any questions or comments, you can contact us via Facebook.com/HelpDianeTran. |

This is actually very close to where I live. I've heard that the judge is up for re-election soon, so hopefully he will be out of a job at that point. Then again, this is Texas, so who knows.
The part that stuns me is the actions of the parents. How can you just abandon your children like that?
