The D is really good, but they don't shut down every team they play. The offense had to show up and win games all the time Smith had to do more than not get in the way.

Yes but Alex didn't "carry" the team.

it's a completely risk free move, glad they grabbed him

he's udfa for a reason though, there is a league wide consensus he wasn't even worth a 7th...will be interesting to see how he handles being 3rd string, and not having his ass kissed as a college hero

sink or swim, douche bag

If they can work on his foot work, keep him off a jet ski and away from empty beer bottles, (work the stupid out of him) he might have a shot.

can't teach the guy's arm, probably the best in the draft

and i'm not even against him for being a dumbass (lots of players are), but it does make it harder to become a quality nfl QB...

kind of like the nico johnson pick, I feel like this is a no-brainer move by Dorsey that ***** would have ****ed up...

Yeah, I hope the guy "gets it." His maturity level needs to increase dramatically and quickly or he won't have a shot. The guy will be selling insurance in two years, or asking for soap on a rope for Christmas hanging with Ryan Leaf.

I hope he can get his shit together.

the nfl is pretty Darwin (um, to phrase it poorly)....he will evolve, or he won't...

at least we have a reason to watch preseason games now...first time this guy throws a lazer, it will be Stanzi x 1000

That's one thing that struck me. He scored a 24 on his Wonderlic which is reasonable for a QB. You would hope that going undrafted, having to fight for a starting job, and having to fight to stay on a roster period are a good wake up call to the guy.

I liked the Jay Cutler comparison. It's almost perfect. He could probably evolve into an unbelievably talented gunslinger who makes a lot of risky decisions, makes plenty of boneheaded decisions, maybe doesn't look like he's motivated to win all the time, and isn't going to be overly liked in the locker room. Not the optimal QB I'd want, but it's better than Alex Smith, and I actually like that ceiling more than a Barkley or Tyler Wilson.

i think Cutler is apt, but he obviously doesn't even have it together that much...Cutler was a legit 1st round pick, Bray is udfa

and i'm thinking of 'dumbass' more as life skills than raw intelligence...more about self motivation, making decisions based on long term rewards (grinding out workouts, watching tape, becoming a technician) than short term rewards (basking in the glory of a being a 'QB', loving the perks but not the hard work etc.)

if he is willing to eat shit as a 3rd stringer for a couple years without making waves, we might have something

Put me down to still want to draft QBotf with our first round pick next year.

Sure doesn't hurt to bring Tyler Bray and see how he does.

I think he may have trouble getting much reps in practice because of the rules for practice time has them practice less so I think its going be harder for young unproven guys to get a shot.

His best chance is make an impression during TC & preseason games. Alex Smith a Chase Daniels will be the ones getting reps in OTA and camps.

This news made my day. Bray was the only guy I had interest in because of his arm and my perception that somebody would have to sit for awhile regardless. I don't see but 4 draftees making the team anyway, Fisher, Kelce, Johnson, Comming. The backs we have are better anyway. To get Bray for nothing, with this coaching staff, with time on our hands as Manning and Rivers ages is just perfect. It is worth the trouble.
