From what I've read, the parents were "questionable" to say the least.

No offense to anyone living there but the Louisiana Bayou is host to a ton of weirdass shit (and people with less than 50 IQ points - no joke).

Incest occurs frequently in the South. It's just not a hotbed topic.

But it's there, all the same.

I worked with an inbred guy the summers between my first two years in college. Which shouldn't come as a big surprise in southern west virginia. I also worked with people who believed a race war was coming, and that those damn negroes were about to take over. I guess they're still waiting. I always wondered how they got their inside information, since we lived in an area almost entirely devoid of any skin color.

One of her early jobs placed her at the university in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Probably the most similar and frightening place I've ever been was a wal-mart in Northern Arkansas, not far from Branson, which was as I recall very close to the headquarters of the knights of the kkk. We're talking a store full of people that were fluorescent white with rather...rounded features. The whole time I'm in there I'm thinking "god I hope they can't tell I'm catholic" (I still was at that point...). It looked like something out of a living dead movie.
