I want Seattle to win it, but Denver is just too strong. That offense under Manning is literally unlike anything we've seen in the NFL, ever.

Regarding the "NFL needs Manning to win" sentiment--Why do they need him to win?

The ads are already sold. Nothing to gain there. As far as his impact on the ratings, that's based on him simply playing in the game. Whether he's on the winning side when the clock hits 0:00 isn't going to make a difference on what the game ratings were.

Frankly, the logic goes that Peyton may retire (or be more likely to retire) if he wins. Surely, the NFL would like to have him back for another season or more. Overall, the NFL probably benefits more if he loses than wins.

Your numbers are wrong. How does 300 TDs and 226 INTs translate to 16 TDs a year and 17 INTs a year?

I'll tell what I'd take, a winner, which John Elway certainly was. I don't expect you to recognize that, you are a Chiefs fan after all.
Yeah, no wrong numbers there.

Manning is playing entirely too well to retire after this year, although with a win I could see him going out on top.

The win and Manning pulls an Elway and wins next year and retires.

First ten years, I said. Look at his first ten years, and you'll see 158 TDs and 157 Ints. (I inadvertently added a few more Ints to account for his Super Bowl appearances, I guess.) Once they converted him to a game manager and put a 2,000 yard rusher behind him his numbers went up.

The truth of the matter is that Elway could not carry a team. Terrell Davis could carry a team, and he made the quarterback look better. He elevated Elway's game from mediocre to pretty good.

I don't blame you for your misperceptions. I feel bad when I see the horror in your eyes. I blame the NFL for deciding that they had to make a #1 pick into a legend just because he could throw the ball hard. They didn't just fool you - they fooled most of an entire generation. Now the historians like myself must debunk the myth and re-introduce the facts.

Well, it helps when the refs are tripping up and getting in the way of the defense.

His first ten years he took 3 teams to the SB while throwing to the likes of Mark Jackson, Ricky Natiel, and Van Johnson and handing the ball off to Sammy Winder and Bobby Humphries.

Saying John Elway could not carry a team is arguably the most ignorant football opinion in the history of football opinions.

I hope a blizzard roles through for the game, and after their loss, Manning announces his retirement, effective immediately.
