So, in a nutshell, yes, I'd be willing to tolerate Smith at QB for the next two seasons if the team were showing that they were putting in the necessary work to get a guy in who would be the QBOTF in the next two drafts.
1. Smith hasn't shown that he is an intelligent player. Delay of games, no sense of urgency, no two minute drive in 2 1/2 years, can't read the field, no pocket awareness. Mentor my ass.

2. Why are you giving them two years? This is the KC mantra - no real prospect this year, let's wait again.

I fully believe that Smith is an intelligent person. But I've never seen much that would cause me to think he's an intelligent football player. He simply doesn't display any realtime intelligence when it's necessary on the field. He consistently stares down his first option, to the point that defenders completely abandon their responsibility and simply follow Smith's eyes. Here's a perfect example. Look at how the two safeties follow his eyes to the checkdown, and leave a WR streaking uncovered up the middle:

There are countless more examples of this. At the first sign of any pressure, his decision making falls apart. If his first read isn't open, he has considerable difficulty adjusting to any other outcome. Generally he'll simply take off running. Many times all it takes is just the phantom anticipation of pressure to cause him to abandon the pocket. And he's simply terrible once he does leave the pocket. His vision is reduced to the point that defenses start crowding the box and let receivers run wild.

He may have considerable intelligence as a person, but his lack of confidence and fear of mistakes negates every single bit of that once he gets any whiff of pressure on the field.

God he sucks! That ball should have been to Jamaal as soon as he makes his cut back inside.

Which is basically what I was trying to say. And this has been exacerbated so far this season.

I think that Smith has become detrimental to himself and the team in that he knows that there is a fine line being walked in terms of game time decisions on both sides of the ball that require him to not make any mistakes.

This leads to overly conservative play which in and of itself leads to mistakes. He's holding onto the ball too long which leads to protection issues that aren't necessarily the offensive lines fault. He's regularly throwing behind receivers because he's tying to make sure that they are in the right route. (Did this numerous times yesterday.)

They need to sit him. Give him a couple of games to refocus and get his head back together and see what they have in Daniel and Murray. Smith is an intelligent player with good mechanics and game understanding who would be a good tutor/mentor to a rookie for the next year or two.

But they have to really focus on making that a real thing right now. Dorsey's army of scouts should be told right now to comb through potential QB players for the next two drafts getting as much information and film on them as possible. Start some deep, hard work on the position immediately.

So, in a nutshell, yes, I'd be willing to tolerate Smith at QB for the next two seasons if the team were showing that they were putting in the necessary work to get a guy in who would be the QBOTF in the next two drafts.
nobody plays QB with more fear than Smith...it's why he's the 32nd ranked qb in the league

he is literally afraid to throw the ball

he is afraid of the pass rush, that's why he stares at it rather than scan the field

he's got no cojones...it's why he's terrible, embarrassing to watch...this QB of our golden era

and 2 more years? holy shit, you have lost it

Would you be willing to suffer through another season of Alex Smith? This is assuming that the rookie sits for the 1st season to get a handle on the offense. This also makes it so the Chiefs don't have to take a huge cap hit to cut Smith.
Well...we don't have a choice, other not going to the games (I'm already there) and not watching on TV (but a scheduled trainwreck on noon Sunday is still hard to miss).

Chiefs luck would be draft a QB, Smith rides the luck into a 13-3 type season and the true fans go nuts and our new toy never gets a chance until its too late.
