Dakota Fanning to be raped onscreen

This is disturbing. I hope people boycott this movie because there's no need for crap like this.

Dakota, 12, to star in 'disturbing paedophile film'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes.

War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog.

The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals.

"In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's War of the Worlds have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors, according to the New York Daily News.

The film charts the life of a girl who is abused and finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley.

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was stopped because of a lack of money.

But emergency investors were found and the movie is set to be finished by the end of the week.

"It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Fanning's agent, Osbrink, said.

"And I've never been so proud of her in my life. In every scene she gets better and better."

Dude! WTF!!
She might've been raped as a kid, and directs a film about her life when she's an adult, and that makes her spineless how?
And where did that quote suggest it was 'up to' Dakota to do this?
Looks more like Dakota chose to do this, and the director is saying she shouldn't be vilified for that choice.

If you get raped and don't speak up...that's on YOU.

Hmm...I wonder if people would support it if it was a black man PORTRAYED as the rapist...

Wow!!
Even if she was 12 in rural Mississippi?
Wow!!

And when did the race of the rapist even come into the picture?

This thread has lowered my estimation of a goodly portion of the CP community.

Sad.

All well and good if Dakota was old enough to appreciate the decision she is making. She isn't, and she won't be for several more years.

The quote said women, not children.

I feel that portraying someone of color would be offensive also...I wasn't trying conjure up negative attitudes about race.

I can. The thread isn't really about the movie, it's about why someone would want to see the movie after we know of the vile content. It's not entertainment, it can't be unless you're odd. If I want the reality of the world, I'll turn on the news, not a trash movie.

And why does a movie always have to be 'entertainment?'
I wasn't 'entertained' by Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Kids, Bully, Gummo, In the Company of Men, The War of the Roses, Seven, any number of dark slices of the human experience. Or even more in documentaries such as Brother's Keeper, Capturing the Friedmans, even Gimme Shelter. But I often took something away from it that was moving or cautionary or unsettling, or otherwise memorable. Can't say that of every movie I see.

So the director is goiing to make money off of being raped? Is she going to profit from it..or is she going to donate alll proceeds to help rape victims?

This movie isn't going to change how anyone approches how absolutely horrible rape is...people aren't going to care more because cute little Dakota Fanning is going to playing this role.

...and spineless was over the top..so I'll rescind that part of my statement..

I can only speak for myself, but for me it's not negotiable - a movie DOES have to be "entertainment".

There's only so many hours in the day and most of them are spent dealing with work and the real world. I wish to spend my free time enjoying myself. Call me hedonistic if you want, but I'm past the point of want to become "enriched" or "enlightened". I just want to get away.

Sorry for forcing you to watch.

And thank you for your efforts in relieving me of the option to watch.

More seriously, I'd rather be ENGAGED, for ill or well, than insist on my motion picture viewing being mindless and fluffy in every instance.

Perhaps the darkest of the bunch I'd mentioned, Kids, has given me more to ruminate on, digest, ward against, etc., than all the Police Academy movies combined.
