I most assuredly do not have blind confidence in anything he's creating at this point. It has coinflip odds, at best.
On this point, I just watched Tales of the Underworld last night. The Cad Bane story worked well, while the Ventress story fell flat, so this checks out.

Just feels like he's still coasting on Clone Wars.

And Rebels SHOULDNT have been a step down. It had more potential than clone wars, IMO. But it was a bit of a drop off.

Ashoka was just firmly mediocre. Again, a bit of an example of Filoni not handling that period as well.

I think clone wars was his wheelhouse as a fanboi and when he's outside of that wheelhouse he's...okay.

I don't think he sucks or anything. I just don't think he's as good as his reputation. I'd be fine with different 'conventional' storytellers getting a crack at the universe at this point (I.e. more Gilroys) because I don't think Filoni is a guaranteed win by any stretch. I think Ashoka is about the best you can expect from him.

And again, it was...fine. Which is about what I think he is. Ashoka is a perfect encapsulation of Filoni. Some good, some odd, some wasted. On aggregate, solid if unspectacular.

Give him the reigns and I think that's pretty much what you'll get. Which is better than what we've seen of late but man, BOBF was so damn lousy. He has that club in his bag. Based on his recent output, he's more likely to give us awful than great at any given moment.

He's Alex Smith. Mostly fine, occasionally awful, never truly spectacular.

I think you're underselling him a TINY bit. Philosophically I don't disagree with anything, but this was a pretty spectacular moment. It was a legitimately moving moment in an animated series.

This doesn't look like Alex Smith to me.

But yeah, Fett is fire roasted ass.

I dunno -- feels like the Alex Smith 2017 season had some Rebels to it...

Guy led the league in passer rating, 4K passing yards, 26/5 TD/INT.

Right ingredients around him at the right time and you got a damn good effort. That moment you're talking about is the season opener on the road against the defending champions when he put up 370 yards and 4 touchdowns. For a moment everything came together and it was as good as anything you could ask for.

But it wasn't sustainable. It was all just part of a very fine overall effort.

Meanwhile there's the 2014 season when he didn't throw a TD to a wide reciever. That's BOBF.

Fair.

But If Filoni is Alex Smith, Kathleen Kennedy is Scott Franchise Killer Pioli. Sure he drafted Eric Berry (Tony Gilroy) but talk about sinking a ship.

Change the player to Justin Houston and I'll give you that one.

Berry was an easy pick to make that worked out fine but ultimately disappointed a bit.

Houston as a bit of a diamond on the rough that worked out FAR better than anyone had reason to hope for and who's only real wart for the franchise was a lack of longevity (in part because there was never any real genuine attachment to the franchise itself...)

Tony Gilroy as Kennedy's Justin Houston? Yeah, that checks out.

I thought about going with Houston, and given the case you made, should have. Pretty shocking how bad the draft picks were back then.

Berry/Houston/Poe is a pretty damn outstanding 'core' trio.

His problem was that he was absolutely ass at finding good complementary pieces. Oh, and he was married to a pile of shit QB who he refused to critically examine.

He made a terrible opening decision and spent seemingly the remainder of his Chiefs career trying to justify it. So it would've been like continuing to insist that Rian Johnson was the right person to take the franchise forward...
