I only live a few blocks from where I work, so I don't have to buy alot of gas as I can either walk or ride my bicycle, but today I had to buy some stinkin' gas and it is $1.75 here in central Wisconsin. The last I remember seeing, it was $1.46. WTF???? So, how much is it where you are?

(I couldn't find the previous post of this nature)

I paid $1.94 for regular unleaded last weekend at a station in Naperville (suburban Chicago) - the same station was $1.35 two months ago. Prices in Chicago itself are at least $2.00 and rising steadily - here you get the worst of all worlds - big oil greed and liberal scumbag outrageous taxes. I see no end in sight, and fear that by July I'll be wishing I was only paying $2.00 a gallon - it'll probably be closer to $3.00. This sick thievery has no limits. The oil companies cry about short supplies and then post record profits. What scum.

I feel like everytime I fill up I should get a kiss and a cigarette - but they'd probably charge extra for that, too.

May all involved burn in hell.

Last fill-up here in Albuquerque was $1.51. I received an interesting email a few days ago forwarded from a friend. It suggested that as a gas boycott for a day wasn't feasible perhaps a boycott of the largest producers, Exxon and Citgo, would be. Might get their attention. I plan to stick with it. May do no good at all but I don't really feel like contributing anything more to Exxon's profits either.

Posted this thread on the weekend - now this morning it is $1.91 for regular here in Wisconsin Rapids. For those of you who have no choice but to drive to work, I feel for you. For those of us that are lucky enough to be close enough to work/errands to walk or ride a bicycle I say DO IT!!! I had to drive today because of the rain, but I have not used $5 worth of gas in 3 weeks because I ride to work everyday.

$1.69 for the cheap stuff today in Wichita.

I know many of you despise govt. involvement in industry, but I think it's time for Uncle Sam to step in and fix this situation by whatever means necessary.

Rising gas prices screw with our entire economy, and IMO the whole "supply/demand" argument is a load of BS. Aren't companies like Mobil, Shell, etc. the ones that get oil out of the ground all over the world, including the Middle East?

If there's a shorage of oil, then why are oil companies raking in record-shattering profits?

Would the President have the nerve to drop the hammer on the industry whose leaders have been greasing his palms for so long?

Normal speculative behavior is to hoard a product rising in price to increase its value. This is estimated now to be $3 to $4 this summer. Which of course will cut demand and release the speculation. However, this theory assumes a volume of stocks to hoard which may not be the case. This may just go until demand is cut 5 to 10% on a daily basis. The profits from this spike will unlikely return to the consumer so net economic demand will go down. This in turn will further reduce demand at about the time prices are rising to offset the higher energy costs. Thus the price/demand structure of the last two decades will be upset. Higher prices meeting decreased demand is usually quickly and severely dealt with in free markets.

Very good question. I am one of those that do not believe that the govt should get involved in this situation, but your question does make you go hmmmm.....

Clint-

There is no shortage of oil---just too much of a dependence on foreign sources for it.

It will get worse before it gets better, but once we slap the environmentalist whacko's around a bit--start drilling and refining here, using Nuclear and burning more and more coal you'll see some changes.

Eight years without an energy policy was a *****, but the times--they are a changin’

TORONTO (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney warned on Monday that the whole nation could face California-style blackouts as he outlined a national energy strategy relying heavily on oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear power development -- but not conservation.

I don't buy the "we're too dependent on foreign sources" argument, either.

If America depends so much on FOREIGN oil, then why do AMERICAN oil companies record mind-boggling profit increases when gas prices go up?

You can bet your home that the oil industry greases OPEC palms as much as their own governments'.

"You announce that the production of oil will be decreased, making YOU look like the bad guy, and we'll give you a f_cking sh_tload of money. Deal?"
