Today I’ll be looking at offensive tackles and tomorrow I’ll move onto guards, before finishing with centers, tight ends, and running backs in the days that follow.

How I’ll be doing that is pretty simple: three years of data from our Pass Blocking Efficiency numbers–a stat of ours that shows which players are giving up the most (and least) pressure relative to how much they’re on the field in pass-blocking situations, factoring in the nature of the pressure as well.

It works itself out by first adding sacks to three quarters the value of the total number of hits and hurries then dividing that result by the player’s pass-blocking snaps. Multiply by 100 and subtract that from 100 and you have the PBE. The closer the final result is to 100 the better.

Cliffs:

Richardson the 6th worst OT over 3 years.

Winston the 8th best. Albert 12th, with precious few left tackles ahead of him.

One of the most overrated anyway. He's always been utter dogshit in the run game, and he got all kinds of lucky that year with Cutler's release. He dropped a nice arc but couldn't handle power to save his life either.

He was far better his 2nd year and 3rd year and PFF graded him much higher. Last year he sucked. Deal with it.

Clady is left alone on an island and has been since day one. He doesn't get help from backs and TE's like everybody else does. PFF doesn't care about that.

Say Clady went one on one against Freeney for 50 snaps and gave up 1 pressure.... If another tackle was going against some scrub for 50 snaps and got help from backs and TE's while giving up zero pressures, PFF would give Clady a lower grade, That is BULLSHIT.

They don't give a shit what players are asked to do. And they certainly don't give a shit WHO you are blocking. PFF's grades are flawed.

One pretty terrible 2009 season shouldn't mean shit to a tackle if he's got the tools, the smarts, and the opportunity. There's no other position quite like offensive line in the NFL where determination fused with natural talent can win the day.

The guy's an above average LT. He's a kind of jack of all trades master of none, except he does a pretty good job at all the duties you want out of a starting LT.

Sac and his other haters really need to admit it- we don't need an elite LT. "Pretty good" will do just fine. Put a real QB behind this offensive line and watch defenses get raped.

EXACTLY.. Albert is just barely above average.. he is in the 10-15 range.. what I have said pretty much all along. I'd love to upgrade the position, but I'd love to upgrade EVERY position... you can't have hall of fame players at every spot. Sometimes, slightly above average is good enough.

I do hate when people on here go on about Albert like he is an elite LT... let's dial it back and be realistic about our players.

Do you have statistics to show that Clady was asked to do more than any other elite LT? Are you saying that Joe Thomas and Jake Long are only the consensus top 2 tackles in the league because they do less than Ryan ****ing Clady does?

What about the Chiefs? If our TEs and backs were assisting ANYONE with pass protection, it was Barry Richardson and not Brandon Albert.

They mean nothing! They are based solely off of statistics. They don't take into account what the player was asked to do, OR who he was lined up against! All Pro teams and DROY are flawed!

Seriously, Justin Houston sat behind Andy Studebaker for much of the early season, basically didn't rush the passer the first half of the season, and was asked to drop back into coverage more than any other OLB in the league. Does that matter? Nope..

Get over it, Clady is bawls. You bought into the hype from his rookie year a bit too much. Tamba's gonna eat his lunch again this year.
