Newest Speculation on Mankins to the Chiefs...

Well ladies and gentlemen, the worm may be turning for Logan Mankins. (Pure speculation of course. )

NFL Rumors – Would the Patriots Trade Logan Mankins?

The New England Patriots are waging a war internally against left-guard holdout Logan Mankins…and they’re winning decisively, giving rise to some NFL betting rumors about trading their Pro Bowl lineman The Patriots have always been an NFL team that gambles their own internal constitution against those of players and agents, holding the team above all else.

Tom Brady proved that the right way to get paid by Robert Kraft is to show up for work, say the right things and keep your fingers crossed.

That’s pretty much the opposite of what Mankins did. He hasn’t been seen anywhere near the Patriots except to stir the pot of his contract negotiations. Dan Connolly, who serves as the current starting left-guard next to Matt Light, did a very admirable job against the Bengals on Sunday. Brady suffered just two quarterback hits the entire game, and was protected well enough to enjoy zero sacks.

Which pretty much paints a clear picture for what the Patriots have to do with Mankins, and that’s trade him. Get his disgruntled ass out of New England and in a new uniform so both parties can move forward. So which teams are the best candidates to swing for the fences with Mankins? NFL rumors insist it’s the Cowboys, but the Chiefs are a much more logical landing spot for him.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are the obvious choice to trade for Mankins because they’re desperate. On top of that, they’ve shown a willingness to give up exactly what the Patriots will be looking for in a trade. They’ll pay Mankins while sending a second-round draft pick (or more) to give Tony Romo the type of protection he needs.

The glaring weakness for Dallas was their horrific offensive line play, which needs any help it can find in free agency. Jerry Jones has never been shy when it comes to making trades, and sending Mankins out of the division and the AFC would be seen as a smart move, especially if they can get a good draft pick in return.

New York Jets

The Jets clearly need someone better than Matt Slausen at their own left-guard spot, but they’ll have to send a boat load to make the Patriots trade Mankins in the division. Still, as the McNabb trade proved, it isn’t beyond reason for teams to trade Pro Bowlers to a big rival. The Jets have to do something to give Sanchez a fighting chance because Slausen is a huge liability on the offensive line.

Kansas City Chiefs

Pioli loves acquiring Patriots and is more than willing to give up draft picks and money to get them. With the Chiefs riding a clear wave of momentum after upsetting the Chargers on Monday Night. Brian Water hold down the fort at left-guard for the Chiefs right now, but at 33-years old the youth movement in Kansas needs someone to replace him.

Hell, he gave Matt Cassel $63 million when he came over from New England. There’s no way he’d pass up a chance to protect that investment by paying Mankins the $45 million or so that he wants.

I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve to be paid like one of the best lineman in the league. He does. It’s just that the Patriots don’t need him like they need Tom Brady which is why their wallet will stay closed as their ears remain open to NFL rumors and trade options teams like Chiefs and Cowboys float his way.

He got benched for a true freshman iirc.

I have never liked him, but am definitely willing to give him a real chance. He is better than Ocal...that much is certain and that makes him our best RT at the moment so we might not have a choice.
I don't think that there's any question that Richardson is better than O'Callagan, but for some reason this staff likes O'Callagan, so when he's ready, he'll be trotted back out there.

Hell, if we want more Patriots, maybe we can trade Cassel back to them...they gotta have another QB laying around somewhere right?
