I moved to College Station from Portland, OR which has more in common with Austin than any other Texas city. And I certainly can't be called a redneck. I drive a compact car, have never shot a gun, hate fishing, and never had a mullet, crewcut, etc.

2. The traditions are dumb. True, some people really get into them but the vast majority don't really care. I was never once yelled at for something I did or didn't do.

3. Cops have nothing better to do than write tickets for dumb crap? Sure, I've heard the stories. I never once got pulled over, ticketed, or even really interacted with the police. Neither did anyone I personally knew.

4. AustinChief - I don't regret attending A&M. So now you know one person that doesn't regret it. And I would never attend UT.

I'm sure there will be more. Flame away.

That's a fair assessment overall.

What you didn't address is what College Station has to OFFER... which is really nothing. That is my biggest complaint. You may as well live in a city like Temple or Waco... also towns with ZERO to offer.

And you don't count, you went there for grad school... you have to admit that is a TOTALLY different experience than undergrad.

Yeah it's a college town...it's a nice stop for a few years but not somewhere I'd really settle down.

It's laidback. Some people are looking for that kind of thing.


And you're right, grad school is different from undergrad. I still spent 70-90 hours a week on campus though. I used the school gym nearly every day, tailgated and attended every football game. I immersed some but not as much as you would living in the dorms.

Oh the one thing they actually do a lot is say Howdy instead of hi, hello, hey. It's kind of annoying but I lasted and didn't pick up that habit.

College Station is a giant cult. Been there for a college event and when I left, I made a promise to myself to never go back.
