Head coach possibilities that nobody's talking about

Why do we need another head coach thread? Because **** you, that's why.

There are some dark horse candidate names that seemingly NO ONE is talking about. Yeah, these guys are all have their issues with short or incomplete resumes, but they should at least get some consideration. They can't be any worse than Josh McDaniels, right?

Bruce Arians- Offensive coordinator for the Steelers. Rock solid resume. "Lunch pail" coach. With the proper QB, would probably have us competing for the playoffs in under a season. Vastly overlooked guy when it comes to that team-- he's actually pretty important and critical to that team's success. Just unknown if he would flame out like Ken Whisenhunt.

Chuck Pagano- Defensive coordinator for the Ravens. Inexperienced as a coordinator, but has been successful at nearly every coaching job he's ever had in the league

Perry Fewell- Defensive coordinator for the Giants. Would be kind of a "wtf" hire, but I can see him getting some looks from teams as more of them start firing their coaches

Vic Fangio- Current defensive coordinator for the 49ers. Was defensive coordinator for a bunch of mediocre teams in the 90s, was a part of some impressive Ravens teams as linebackers coach, though

Tom Clements- QB coach for the Packers. Coached QB for the Chiefs in 2000 and got a Pro Bowl season out of Elvis ****ing Grbac

Winston Moss- Assistant coach/linebackers for the Packers. Guy is full of ****ing fire. Players like Hali, Houston, Berry... holy shit would they love playing for this guy. Definitely has the brawn, don't know if he has the brains, though.

Mike Zimmer- Defensive coordinator for the Bengals. I know next to nothing about this guy, but I know a lot of planeteers like Pestilence who have him on their personal short lists.

Completely agree.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Also, Al Saunders is still out there in Oakland as OC and he has strong connections to the Hunt family as well.

Al Saunders wasn't run out. He was given close to two million to run the Redskins offense and Vermeil was retiring. That's why Saunders left.

I don't want a retread either, but I was just trying to open some eyes to the fact that the Hunts are running this search and Pioli is just trying to persuade them to hire one of his guys, which Haley was a Pioli guy...or at least worked with him and obviously that didn't work out so well.

Coordinaters and college coaches are crap shoots. I'm not against them, just saying even what looks like a great choice might be a dud.

So, lets limit our options to coaches that are going to be fired this year.

I'd be ecstatic to have Saunders.

My first choice would be "The Jaw."

Fact is the Pats are just a cheap copy of the Steelers anyway.

You push Cowher and Pioli together it's just enough ego-mashing to find a solid balance and perhaps find something special...

I think we should go get Mike McCarthy to groom out new qb.

Lets go full reerun and hire 10 head coaches. It will be revolutionary!Q*U!@!!!!!!!!!!

Herm Edwards & John Gruden to scout players for draft day and gush all over them.
Charlie Weis & Brian Billick to game plan and give us a decided schematic advantage.
Josh McDaniels to cheat and give Weis & Billick an advantage in devising their decided schematic advantage.
Dick Vermeil to give players hugs.
Jack Del Rio to punch players in the face.
Bill Cowher to stand on the sidelines and scowl during games.
Rob Ryan to stand on the sidelines during games looking homeless.
Denny Green for post-loss press conferences.

I don't want a retread and I prefer someone young(er).

But if we go the retread & old(er) route what about giving old man Dom Capers a chance with a team that's not an out-of-the-box expansion club? Every where he's been since his last HC job the defense is nails. Plus he runs the 3-4. Just keep him away from the offense.

Year Team NFL Rank Pts Against NFL Rank Yds Against
2006 Miami 5 4
2007 Miami 30 23 (full reerun 1-15 season)
2008 Patriots 8 10
2009 Green Bay 7 2
2010 Green Bay 2 5

I may be wrong, but I thought Saunders left because he was told he would be the next HC after Vermiel left and was lied to.

I still can't believe he traded for Herm...that's like if Pioli were to TRADE for McDaniels.

Is it possible that they fired Haley before the end of the season because they already knew who they wanted to go after and wanted to get a jump on the other teams? That would point to a coach currently out of work or a college coach (or someone already on staff though they wouldn't have needed to rush for that).

You haven't looked at the list of recent Super Bowl winning coaches very closely, have you?
