I think you are right. One time my wife was cooking turnips when her girlfriend dropped by and couldn't get over how good it smelled. When they were done, she ate some and hated them. Also, how it is cooked is important. I love Brussels Sprouts but certainlywouldn't order them in a restaurant. They need to be small and cooked just until they are starting to soften up. Restaurants start them cooking early and they cook all day. They get mushy and taste shitty.

Tomatoes. I have eaten all kinds of nasty stuff in my life including tripe, dog and deep-fried shrimp heads but for some reason tomatoes gross me out. Something about the consistency of the insides, all gelatinous with those seeds floating around in them. Just filthy.

It isn't the taste that bugs- it is the consistency. Once they are diced into salsa or pureed into marinara sauce I am fine with them.
