It's a dog.

It's a dog. It's a dog. It's a dog.

It's a freaking possession, like a used spare tire.

FAX
Fax,

I actually just re-read it and I think I got the sheriff all wrong.

Quote:
"We wouldn't have been there in the first place had those two knuckleheads not been on YouTube trying to fabricate a cannon as opposed to reading a book,"
I think he means that the guys should've been reading a book on how to fabricate the cannon, rather than looking at youtube clips. Evidently the schematics would have been as such that they could have built a muzzled one that may not have attracted the attention of authorities.

Because seriously, nobody could possibly be that big a prick. Sheriff Justice...I mean Sheriff Normand, is just a good samaritan.

Gotta say I'm with ClevelandBronco on this.

I really like my dog and I don't really like cops that much but come on people it is a dog. It apparently lunged at the cop a 2nd time after not being afraid of a gun being discharged in its direction. I have a pit-bull that was coming into "my yard" at my lake place and barking at me so I shot him in the ass with a BB gun a couple of times. He has on occasion come back but he takes off running at the site of me. Had he continued come around and act aggressively I would have had no problem upping the fire power. I probably would have popped him with a paint ball gun first but I would not have any guilt at all about putting a real bullet in his head to prevent him coming after me or even after my own dog. I also have a problem with a police dog being able to chew on my backside but if I hit it with a lead pipe to get it off,I'm guilty of assaulting a police officer. WTF? Something to take note of in the picture he is blubbing by the grave site of his doggie in his back yard. I know lots of people do it but burying you pet in you back yard is against the law most places. The cops will probably be back with another ticket for this guy.

How many folks have really made this about the dog?

The conversation in this thread has centered on the conduct of the officer. He could've tripped over a lantern and set the guy's shed on fire and it would've been no less egregious.

The dog isn't the point, it's the property rights and civil liberties that are.

Things would have worked out a lot better if the guy had built a dog cannon and the cop had shot his potato. Life isn't fair, sometimes.

To be honest I read a couple of pages and skipped to the end. It seemed to me that the outrage was that someone's doggie got shot. I went back and read couple of your posts and that does not seem to be what you are talking about. I agree with you that the police shouldn't be randomly wondering through peoples homes or on their property however: while the reality of the situation may well have been an over zealous cop being a prick trying to bust to kids for playing with a potato gun, what the information presented says is that they were responding to a call regarding "shots fired". A certain amount of stealth and caution to not alert anyone or their dog that the police are coming to investigate seems reasonable with the information available to us. Now if the guy would like to push it he can certainly fight his ticket and try to sue the police department for the loss of his dog and if they can prove the police did not have probable cause to enter his property the rest should be easy.

All a gunshot is going to do is frighten the dog, esp if its not hit.

Pepper spray the damn thing and it will run away yelping. Simple as that.

Like I said before, in case somebody ever has to use pepper spray on a dog, you don't even have to spray them. Shoot some in the air and the dog will back down. They have 200+ million smell cells, compared to 5 millions for humans, and hate the stuff.

I've done it more times than I can count.

If the dog wasn't involved it wouldn't have made a ripple...who would care?
