For Oldtimers: LJ vs Okoye

I was watching the video posted by Nzoner (link here) of the Chiefs rolling the Bills in 1991 at Arrowhead against the SB bound Bills. Okoye was amazing.

Made me wonder - straight up - would you rather have LJ or Christian Okoye?

You young guys will not remember the Nigerian Nightmare - a 260 pound load of muscle, speed and heart.

I will add my all time fave Donnell Bennett to the poll...

The no brainers are LJ and Priest, then there is Marcus Allen, Delaney, Garrett, McKnight, Word, Heard, Williams and Jimmy Haynes...Samkon Gado.
That, overall, is a pretty pathetic group.

And I believe you mean't Abner Haynes.

Okoye was the best ever running straght up the field with his head down behind a powerful line, but he didn't do any thing else.

I was just kidding around. But, that being said, I don't think they are all that pathetic.

Do you remember the Hearman Heard/Paul Palmer days?

Who was the guy that Marty touted as the next big thing a rookie free agent that played a liberty or something? I thought it was Jimmy Haynes.

Deberg hit the nail on the head again.

This is not even a discussion. Yeah, LJ's a dickhead, but he's also a much better running back than Okoye.

Somebody needs to find that game at Seattle, where Okoye ran through 7 guys en route to the end zone. Absolutely brutal...

Even Larry at his best would of been hard pressed to pull that exact same run off.

Okoye was THE definition of "smash-mouth" football. Because he didn't go through the traditional way into football, he wasn't as polished when it came to pretty much anything else other than than running straight ahead into the horde.

Larry is a all-around better running back than Okoye, but Okoye has more memorable runs by shear rawness than Larry.

Watching the Super-Bowl bound Bills on a Monday night game get destroyed by Okoye is sight I probably won't see again. By the third quarter of that game the Bills defensive linemen where battered so bad that Okoye was helping them off the ground after each run. Think about that for a second... He damn near battered his own offensive lineman just as bad going in.

I remember a game with Green Bay that on one of the rare occasion he got outside he was running down the sideline when a defensive back tried to hit him, and instead of knocking him out of bounds, he ended up taking a ride on the Okoye express. The site of him riding on Okoye's back, as he furiously tried to yank him out of bounds is a memory I like to refer to on bad days to cheer me up.

And he still has the coolest nickname in the history of football, The Nigerian Nightmare.

Yeah the smart answer for this poll is Larry Johnson. But I'll still take Okoye over him for entertainment value. Not to mention Christian Okoye was one of the nicest and humble players ever to play football.
