I hate USC, but I realize that Mays is a can't-miss pick. I don't think I want the Chiefs to take him, but he will no doubt be a borderline top 5 pick. It's not just him saying that. I would much rather Mays than Maualuga. I was high on Maualuga for a while, but I've lost that.

Maualuga is the better pick over Mays and here is the video evidence to prove it:

i got it ......

less expectations for a top 3 drafted Quarterback in his 1st year than a undrafted FA QB in his first "real" year.

If you are a late pick you have to show something right away, no team is going to waste 5 years developing a low round player so he can be an average player, it just doesn't work that way.

Odds are against him even developing if you take that approach with a team you'd find a few good players and a bunch of turds.

Personally I don't think you take that chance at the most important position on a team.

Take the best QB at the time of our pick ... look at FA for a pass rusher and LBs ...

I can't remember the front office dude, but I read in some interview-probably here, that the priority for building a team is:

1st QB
2nd LT
3ed DE
4th CB

I like what we have at LT and CB. Yes we need a DE (actually 2), but our 1st priority has got to be to fill the QB position.

You DO NOT take any other OL in the first round. I'm not sure we need a RT. We drafted Richardson last year. He needs to play. Remember Will Shields was a 3rd round pick, Dave Szott a 7th, Brian Waters was a free agent TE when we got him.

Thats pretty much correct for the most part.

Those 4 you mentioned are all "Core" positions.

Most other positions can be filled in with later picks or decent free agent pickups.

I’m sure this has been said many times before in this thread or other threads, but I will say it again. The quarterback position is the most important position on the football team. NFL salaries show this to be true. The position also requires the most time to groom and train for the team to be successful. IF Stafford, Bradford, or Sanchez looks to be future franchise quarterbacks, they have to be selected with the Chiefs 1st round pick. Defensive ends, safeties, linebackers do not require as much grooming and can be picked either next year or in later rounds this year. I know selecting a bad QB can set the team back a few years but also waiting until 2010 to select a 1st round QB sets them back at least a year.

I don’t think the Chiefs should give up on Tyler Thigpen, but they should not give him the keys to the kingdom and tell him he is king. Draft a very good college quarterback and have competition. If Tyler continues to grow it gives the Chiefs strength at that position and allows them future trade possibilities. It takes time to groom and grow young quarterbacks. It would not be bad to have Tyler quarterbacking next year unless the only reason he is there is because we have no one else.

If one can get a franchise QB is now, you shouldn't ever hesitate to pick him.

great.... but you don't think Detriot and the Lambs are thinking that too????

I just don't think Stafford will fall to Chiefs, I agree... he should play Sr.Year

we will likely be picking in bottom 10 again.

The Rams have a shit load of money wrapped into Bulger, and Detroit is the only team that could be a threat
