Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, etc. are for the "little people".

Those who exist in a station in life in which there exists nothing but the prospect of unending boredom, failure at all pursuits and absolutely no prospect for success in any milieu find the excruciating minutiae of another of life's rejects to be captivating. Yet another example of the degradation of society. I suppose that those addicted to Twitter, et al. are miscreants that can at night be found peeping in windows or exposing themselves to small children in the park.

Yes, sir, if the interest in message boards is purely prurient.

Dude. You've posted 65 times in 2 months. Depending on when in April you joined, that is at the minimum a post a day. Plus in order for you to post, you first have to read. So you spend an inordinate amount of time on the internet too, buddy. I'd take a long look in the mirror before you go judging too much.

My wife's company recently went to a trade show. In one day, they made $70k worth of sales directly related to her presence on twitter. So... umm.... some people are using twitter to enhance their lives.

I love how every new bit of technology ever goes through the initial hate phase. I'm not even that old but I remember people whining about cell phones being useless.

The best thing now a days is web design changes. People hate the new design, then fight to keep the same design later.

The industry news I get via twitter is invaluable.
Yeah, with so much hype around it, it's funny that some people still think it's all about what you had for breakfast. I guess if people actually read the articles, they would figure out that those who love it the most don't use it to update people on every insignificant moment of their lives.

Exactly. It seems as if no matter how many times people talk about the great uses of Twitter, the vast majority of those who don't use it and don't get it always come back to "why would I care about the mundane details of your life, and why would you care about mine?".

I use Facebook to tell people what I'm up to, because there is some value to that, and FB's status comments makes it easy to post something like "had a great night at the P&L", and then give details to anyone who wants them.

Twitter is awesome because it can be exactly what you want it to be, not what someone else, or the designer wants it to be. It just takes a little time to figure that out, and most people give up by then.
Yep... IMO, Facebook is like a high school reunion and Twitter is like heading to college for the first time. FB is for reconnecting, and it's actually hard to start good conversation because most people are hung up on using it as a status updater and for recommendations or sharing ideas/info. It's anticlimactic to say the least.

OTOH, people have turned Twitter into a way to start conversation, share ideas, spread information & knowledge, etc. For a long time I used it for the real-time search, and I've recently started using it almost as an RSS feed for tech news. I follow several tech sites, software developers, and social media people.... and I have several saved searches, too.
