Ndamukong Suh in car crash
Dec 05, 2011
Portland TV station alleges disturbing details in Suh crash Comments By Nate Davis, USA TODAY Updated 3m ago Ndamukong Suh's public image continues to take a beating even though he's on an unpaid vacation from the Detroit Lions. CAPTIONBy Jim Z. Rider, US Presswire The all-pro defensive tackle was in a one-car accident early Saturday morning in his hometown of Portland, Ore., while serving a two-game suspension from the NFL. Initial reports indicated he and his two passengers were fine after his vintage 1970 Chevrolet Coupe hit a tree downtown. But a report from Portland's NewsChannel 8 suggests that's not entirely accurate. A third passenger was apparently in the vehicle while two of them have come forward to amend their statements to police. "When the light turned green, he floored it," one of them told KGW regarding Suh's driving. "I just remember going so fast and it was violent and just getting thrown around like rag dolls." The revised police report says two passengers were hospitalized for various cuts and bruises and one was seriously hurt even though Suh initially told 911 callers everyone was fine. None of the passengers wanted their names publicly disclosed. "He was driving too fast and reckless all the time. There was never a taxi (involved in the accident). He was just going too fast and he could have killed someone," said one of the passengers in the police report while also claiming Suh was more concerned about protecting his image than aiding his passengers. Here is a transcript of Suh's call to 911: Operator: "911." Suh: "Yes, I just got into an accident off of Ankeny and 4th." Operator: "Do you need an ambulance?" Suh: "No, I don't think so. I think everybody's fine." Operator: "We have other calls about this. Hold on a second here." Suh: "OK." Operator: "We have reports it's a car into a tree. Is that you?" Suh: "Yes." Operator: "OK, are you sure you don't need an ambulance?" Suh: "Yes, everybody's fine." Operator: "OK, and were you in the car that hit the tree?" Suh: "I'm the driver, I'm the driver, I'm the driver." Operator: "I'll let them know you're refusing emergency — excuse me, medics. Hold on just a second." Suh: "Officer! Officer! Officer!" Operator: "He's looking for you. I'll let him know you're at 4th and Ankeny. What's your name?" Suh: "Suh is the last name: S-U-H. (To officer) How you doing? I slipped off the (indiscernible) when I was coming out. (To operator) Say that again." Operator: "Just your first name and your phone number, sir." Suh: "N-D-A-M-U-K-O-N-G." Operator: "Thank you. What's the phone number for you, please?" Suh: (Withheld). Operator: "Thank you very much, sir." Suh: "Thank you." Suh served the first half of his suspension Sunday night. After a series of flagrant fouls over his first 27 games, he was punished after stomping on Packers G Evan Dietrich-Smith during the Lions' Thanksgiving Day loss. |
