DV quote on McCleon

VERMEIL: “I don’t know if there will be any personnel changes. I looked at the tape and you point to Dexter McCleon. I trust him and believe him and know he can play. I know he got tested over and over again and got beat a couple of times. He got beat in the first quarter on a perfectly executed play that I wish we would make ourselves and for a touchdown. That’s not unusual for a Jimmy Smith to do that. It’s a little unusual for a second year quarterback to do it so efficiently. We have to evaluate if it’s a continual pattern or just great execution.”

I don't get it. I understand standing by your players. DV loyalty and all that but....He's been burned so many times...
I just don't think they get it at 1 Arrowhead drive

You want a translation? Here it is:

"Dexter has sucked this year, and we don't know why. He overachieved last year and we'd like to wait this out and see if it's a funk or if he just blows Kong-Schlong. He probably blows Kong-schlong, but to be honest, I don't think we've got anyone we can stick in there right now who'll do that much better. F**k..."

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Here's the thing. I think Bartee or Battle will get burnt a few times as well. But at least they can tackle, and they have the physical tools, so they might actually turn out to make a few plays.

At least Bartee or Battle (or Sapp) have the potential to get better with PT. Let's face it, Dexter ain't getting any better. Too short and too old.

This quote form and, and his standing by Lawrence Phillips for so long when he was the Rams coach are just a couple of reasons why I question Dick's credibility, and his talent evaluation.

It seems that he will vacilate when discussing a player he seems to personally like if that player's talent is questionable, or his character is flawed.

But a player that he has no love for, is one that he will not hesitate to denigrate.

It's obvious that McPassOn is just terrible, but Dick likes him, so in Dick's eyes he's just been beaten a couple of times.

I'll bet McPassOn really loves Dick.

I totally agree.

Guys like Dexter get a free pass, but guys like Johnson get publically humiliated in the media.

Vermeil's right on the Jimmy Smith play. It was a perfect pass and a great catch. A taller DB might have been able to defend it, but it was good play by Jax.

But that play isn't the one that bothers me. It's the play where they scored late in the fourth. McReception cannot defend a fade to the corner. They ran the exact same play on the conversion and it was just as easy for them. Any play that takes advantage of McReception's height has been effective this year.

Frankly, I'm getting tired of Vermeil standing by his boys. Someone needs to light a fire under these guys asses, and a tear and a pat on the ass isn't going to do it.

McReception has played poorly enough that Bartee should at least be getting some time as #2 DB. Maybe he's no better, but I think Dexter's play has at least given the coaches an excuse to find out.

I would actually like to see them start Sapp over Battle and Bartee. He's the only guy in the secondary besides Wesley, who can blitz. He also seems to tackle well and he made some nice bumps on wr's in the Jax game.
