Why does no one want Al?

Als been coaching in the NFL for over 26 years. Did great with the Chargers. Why hasnt Houston locked him up? Is he an ass or just better fitted as a coordinator instead of HC?

Age is probably the biggest factor. Coaching is a young man's job. Most of the older guys who are hired are established coaches - Vermeil, Gibbs, Parcells.

As I've said elsewhere, in interviews I've heard on the radio with Al, unlike a lot of coaches, he doesn't wear his passion on his sleeve, and he is very cerebral.

If he interviews the same for HC jobs, he may be turning a lot of GMs off with his percieved lack of passion.

Bills | Mularkey to resign?
Thu, 12 Jan 2006 12:51:27 -0800ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports
Buffalo Bills head coach Mike Mularkey reportedly met with team president Ralph Wilson and general manager Marv Levy Thursday, Jan. 12, about resigning from the head coaching post. The resignation is not forced, as Wilson and Levy are trying to convince him to stay.

Why can't re-sign and resign be different words. They have different meanings but it doesn't make sense that both have the same same spelling and visual appearance. Read (active) and read (past tense) does the same thing. Any other words like that bother anybody else?

If Saunders doesn't get a head coaching job elsewhere he may be resigned to resign as offensive coordinator with the Chiefs.

Wasn't Al an HC before and had to step back down? In the 80's I believe? He needs to realize that he just needs to stay in KC.

Because I've already contacted all the NFL teams and informed them that he is a transexual and has a thing for coaches. He's really depressed in KC because none of the coaches there like him. The only team he will probably land with is Denver as an OC after Kubiak leaves. They said they would welcome him with open arms and can't wait.

Yep. If he were early 40s instead of late 50s...

I think he will still end up with a HC job. Raiders or Lions.

Interim HC.

HC Team record 8-7

HC Fired/Released from 5 year contract after second year.

I wouldn't call that a successful HC career.

Yeah, I wonder if he's almost too nice. I mean he's aggressive, and he's very active on the practice field... but in interviews he does sound very calm in demeanor. I think he'd be a great fit for the Lions but it seems like Millen wants a big angry dude who yells a lot.

there has been rumors that Saunders was part of a "coup" of sorts back when he was a head coach.

a bunch of coaches tried to get the GM fired or something... i'm not real sure.

apparently people in the NFL still remember it

Saunders took over as HC in SD midway through the 86 season, and was fired after the '88 season.

He took over at the end of the Air Coryell era, and his time included the the year of replacement players in the strike year of '87.

The reality is that coming to KC as WR coach was probably a bad career choice.

I don't think age would have anything to do with it, but the conspiracy thing might just bother some organizations, especially since the fans in Oakland want A L Davis gone at any cost.

Even his former supporter tend to think his day has passed and all of the Blue Collar workers that used to support the team has given way to higher priced fans. (there are some holdovers, but their prices have been worse than the Chiefs)
