James Woods: 'I Don't Expect to Work Again' in Hollywood

The actor has been critical of Democrats and the president and presumes his political opinions will cost him jobs.

After repeatedly criticizing President Barack Obama, actor James Woods suggested in a tweet late Tuesday that his politics may cost him work in Hollywood.

Michelle Obama Cancels Los Angeles Trip Amid Government Shutdown (Exclusive)

Woods has been critical of Obama before but in the past few days seems particularly incensed at the president’s handling of the partial government shutdown. He tweeted, for example: “This President is a true abomination. To have barricaded the WW2 vets, but allow illegal aliens privilege...” The tweet linked to a USA Today article.

On other occasions, Woods retweeted photos, articles and more about the shutdown, the attack on the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya, problems with Obamacare and the growing national debt. When linking to a New York Times story about a plan to allow noncitizens to monitor polling places in California, he joked that “dead democrats can vote multilingually now.”

Last night a follower -- apparently noting the discrepancy between Hollywood’s famously progressive politics and the actor's hostility toward the president -- tweeted to Woods: “dude, aren’t u worried about...u know...ever working again??”

Woods responded: “I don’t expect to work again. I think Barack Obama is a threat to the integrity and future of the Republic. My country first.”

On Wednesday, Woods’ tweet became a cause celebre among conservatives, some tweeting that he was their new favorite actor, and Twitchy, a website run by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, posted a collection of the tweets.

I'm pretty sure all those actors have/had their own production companies. It's not hard to hire yourself. I don't think James Woods falls into that category.

Somehow I doubt that everything Stallone, Willis, and Arnold have done since the mid 80s has been attached a production company they own.

Movie producer.

Having watched Maltese Falcoln recently, Bogie is an odd physical type to play a detective. He's a short dude that purportedly wore 5" lifts.

I hear ya. Mel Gibson, an actor whose movies I really liked, and Tom Cruise (less so, but still) have basically convinced me that I should never give them my money.

He's awesome in that movie, though. That whole movie is so great that I probably watch it at least once a year.

He's not at all a classic male lead. Cruise is short, but very above average in appearance. Bogie isn't even that.

But he was a great actor, so he outgrew the "B" movie villain roles that dominated his early career and turned into as good, famous and successful a male lead as there has ever been.

Gotta throw in To Have and Have Not or something soon...

If you like that one, then presumably you'll like The Big Sleep also. I assume you know this, but just in case...

Loved the big sleep. My dad pointed out that Philip Marlow had a twitch where he touched his ear all the time. He told me that was exclusive to that character, not Bogart. Not sure if true, but that's pretty sweet if so.

He is sort of like Robert Duvall. As in not quite a leading actor but a very enjoyable character~
