****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel disputes reports on Franklin’s recovery time

The Kansas City Star

Missouri coach Gary Pinkel disputed reports about the recovery time of quarterback James Franklin on Sunday.

Pinkel’s weekly TV show aired Sunday morning on KOMU in Columbia, and according to a Columbia Tribune reporter, Pinkel said that Franklin suffered a Grade II shoulder separation and will be out a few weeks, but that it was too soon to know exactly how long.

On Saturday, CBS Sports college football columnist Bruce Feldman, citing an anonymous source, reported Franklin would miss at least six weeks. ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, also citing an anonymous source, reported Franklin would miss the Tigers’ six remaining regular-season games.

According to the Tribune reporter, Pinkel said Sunday that those reports were not accurate: “We haven’t even talked about it. I just said he’ll be out a few weeks,” adding that he would have more accuracy on Franklin’s prognosis in the next 48 hours.

If Franklin is out six weeks, he would miss all but the Tigers’ regular-season finale against Texas A&M on Nov. 30.

Franklin left in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 41-26 victory at No. 7 Georgia. Also Saturday, senior cornerback E.J. Gaines, a Fort Osage graduate, left because of a right quad strain early in the second quarter and did not return. Pinkel said Sunday on his TV show that Gaines has a “thigh bruse.”

It was unclear exactly when Franklin suffered the injury. There was an awkward throwaway near the sideline when Franklin appeared to be hit and driven to the ground. He stayed in for another play, a 4-yard run when uncharacteristically he stepped out of bounds.

Missouri then called a timeout, and Franklin headed to the locker room.

The is no official timetable for Gaines’ return either.

I know we talked about Missouri in the trenches before this game and how it matched up...

I think it's pretty clear Missouri has a very good DL, and probably the best group of DEs in the SEC. It's also possible the only member of that unit Missouri loses in the offseason is Michael Sam... which would be a big loss, but they have a lot of talent behind him.

Also, in re-watching the game, I'm pretty impressed by the performance of John Gibson (CB), Aarion Penton (CB) and Braylon Webb (S). The defense won't lose much next year and could progress to being a real strength.

Something else that bears repeating: How ****ing bad was David Yost at his job?

Look at what this team did with Christensen, how the offense cratered despite having Gabbert, Washington, DX, and Egnew, and what it has done this year.

Henson has done very well, and has made necessary, positive changes, but I think it only underscores how incompetent his predecessor was.

I thought Penton did a good job coming in and replacing Gaines....

And that one play that Webb made on the pass deflection was a clinic in how to defend from behind the receiver.

I happen to know the Tigers' orthopedic surgeon through a family connection. I'll see if I can't get some secondhand info for you guys.

Bad. He was pretty bad.

Here's something else that I think is coming to light... Yost wasn't just a bad OC, he was a bad QB coach, too.

Look how little Brad Smith developed under his watch (the mechanical issues never got any better, and it hurt his throwing ability a lot). Chase Daniel was a finished product when he got him. Blaine Gabbert never improved. And Franklin last year... even without the injuries, his mechanics were a mess, especially the flat-footed spots.

And now look at how much Franklin improved this year under Andy Hill. It's not just his health through the first 5 games. His mechanics are much better, he's much more decisive, and he was much more accurate (and had more zip on the ball) as a result.

I never understood the flat footed stance. A lot of people have brought that up over the last two years, especially Saul Good. You couldn't put a QB in a less athletic position to throw the ball. Looking back, it might be fair to say that the best game Gabbert ever played was his first (although the OU game was very close). That's a pretty damning indictment itself.

It makes me wonder what Yost was, other than a dingleberry and potential asset in recruiting, because he was a terrible ****ing football coach.

Yost coached his guys to do that if they made a pre-snap read and were trying to throw the ball to one spot based on it. Set the feet where you need them as the snap was coming to you.

Of course, if the read was wrong, it left the QB completely unprepared to make a quick adjustment/change.

Yost was a ballwasher. Did whatever Pinkel wanted. I think it's hilarious a guy who played WR in college and is a grinder/worker type coach (rather than a flashy guru type) has made Yost look like shit as a QB coach.

Disappointed to see Franklin get hurt again (man is he brittle or what), but I am excited to see what Mauk can do.

At the very least, we will have a much better expectation of what this team will look like for the next season or two. Mauk will likely be the starting QB for the next couple years unless he is worse than Berkstresser.

Hopefully we can beat UK and UT without Franklin (UK is almost as bad as kansas). If we can find a way to get at least one win against Florida, SC, Ole Piss, and A&M, then we will get to 9 wins, which I would be damn happy about.

9-3 in the SEC gets you to a pretty sweet bowl game and top 25 final ranking.

Don't forget Henson's skills as a pimp, evidenced by his time at OSU.
